Gotta get an apron

Many of you know I am a sucker for anything from years gone by, actually years from before I was born. I am enchanted by the thought of living in a world where Godly ideals, real masculinity and femininity and hard work thrived. I often feel so out of place in my own generation. The following was one of those silly forwarded emails, but I loved it. It is a little sample of the pure beauty and logic of yesterday. The History of 'APRONS'Do you remember Grandma's apron? Do you remember making one in Home Economics? I don't think our kids know what an apron is.The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few,it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fu...

Prayers pretty please...

Early in the summer, I got up and randomly decided to take my kids to story time. While I was there, although I did not know it, God casually introduced me to someone seeking the truth. I left the Library, thinking about the sweet woman and I really wanted her phone number, but I thought that she would think I was strange if I asked for it. She crossed my mind over the summer, several times. On Labor Day weekend I begged my husband to take us paddle boating at a nearby park. He relented and after about 30 minutes on the water we decided to go ahead and leave. When we pulled into the dock, the woman was standing on it with her two kids. I approached her and she seemed so thankful to see me. We proceeded to talk about 2 hours. This time we exchanged phone numbers.I should have called her right away, but I waited. Several weeks later, she called me upset and with many questions about marriage and God. The whole experience has been amazing. Gods hand has been in it all. She ...

Sorry to post a political article, at such a fun time of year, but the following is very important. The government is seeking to totally replace our authority as parents and most of us do not even know it...A Letter from Michael Farris,President of ParentalRights.org. Dear Friend of Parental Rights,I was in the United States Senate this past week meeting with lawyers for a Senate office. They told me directly what I have been hearing indirectly on a regular basis ever since the election. Those who want to change family policy in America to comply with international law are preparing a full-scale effort to seek ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child during this next Congress. Barbara Boxer recently told a planning group that they intend to use children’s health care as leverage to seek ratification of this UN children’s rights treaty. Please link to our website to see a succinct summary of the problems with this UN treaty. The strength of thei...

Have not been around much. The Hastings house has not been very healthy for a few months. This is not typical of us and I am tired of all the yuck. We have 16 days to recover, although earlier would be good.I hope to catch up with you all someday. In the meantime, make sure you are taking your vitamin C.

November, please slow down...

With a 5 year old and soon to be 3 year old, I am very excited about the holidays this year. I, however, have so much I want to do, to celebrate, I have no idea how to fit it all in. Next week we are having 3 gatherings. I am so excited, but there is much work to do.Tonight we brought home 6 more young, BIG, healthy Boer goats. Two, however, will not be around after Wednesday. The goat business is definitely rolling and I can't wait till next Spring, to see our own "kids" born, instead of buying them all from someone else. My husband is amazing, patient, strong, caring, determined, dedicated, loving and somehow seems to get the work of 5 men done on a daily basis. I ADORE him. (I know that was random, but sometimes I just need to yell that kind of thing out.)I can not control myself with that chex "muddy buddy" stuff. I made some last week, when I was in the holiday spirit, and nearly finished the bag by myself (in a very short time.) I am also addicted ...

I love this month...The Lord has blessed me to celebrate the following this month:- The birth of 2 of my 3 favorite people - My spiritual 21st birthday- The best holiday ever- CranberriesThank you God!_________________________________________________I forgot to mention how much I love "falling back!" My body immediately adjusts and I love it.Shooting pumpkins with my Honey was very fun today.Riding the tractor and getting a jump on Christmas lights (while the temperature was 70) was also good.

A colorful day...

We purchased our wood stove last week and one of the best things about it was that we were blessed with two very large boxes as a result. The farmers up the road also dropped off two very adorable barn kittens last week. They were quite wild when they got here, but the girls have done a great job taming them. Well, today I needed to do some "real" cleaning and I took the girls out in the backyard with the boxes and lots of paints and brushes. Ben cut doors and windows out for them. To say that "they enjoyed it" would be an understatement and I enjoyed giving the floors a good scrubbing.A few hours later they came in, covered with paint and headed for a bath. On the way Willow said, in a very matter of fact tone, as if she had just completed an important task, "We painted the kittens."I said, "Oh you did?" She replied "yup." Just as if I had asked if she had fed them. I looked on the back porch and found a very small, dumb...
