Back to the grind

After spending about a week and a half with some fine folks in Texas, I have returned to my normal routine back in Atlanta. My nephew has been walking for a while now, but this trip was the first time I was able to see it for myself. It also appears that he has the makings of a fine percussionist; next year's Christmas present may be his very own drum set.One memorable moment from the trip occurred when Kristyn, Aleisha, Stanley and I went to Joe's barbecue in Alvin, Texas. As I was paying at the counter, I had the following conversation:LADY AT COUNTER: Was everything alright?ME: Yes, it was fine. I live in Georgia now, so I can't get Texas barbecue very often.LADY AT COUNTER (leaning in and whispering, after glancing right and left): I hear they only eat pork out there.

Because 211,000 lights would have been WAY over the top...

This is a house in Pittsburg, PA that is covered in 210,000 lights, computer animated, and synched to music. My Christmas wish: to one day have a house like this.

Random updates

It has been over a month since my last post, which, while important, did not provide much information on the current goings-on in my life. Therefore, I provide below a synopsis of various stuff.1. The Job: Definitely getting better in that I finally feel like I'm getting a handle on it. I think it will still take a few more months to feel like I have a real grasp of things, though. That being said, there are still days when I'm glad the windows in my office are sealed shut, else I might be overly tempted to jump.2. The Holidays: Spent a wonderful Thanksgiving with Kristyn and her family. Other than the turkey, everyone had a great time. I leave on December 23 to spend the Christmas holidays in Texas with the family, returning to Georgia around January 2. And I already know what the best Christmas present I'm going to get is: Kristyn is also making the trip to Texas.3. The Car: I recently lost my mind and bought a 2009 Honda Pilot. It's a great car and I'm enjoying it, although I ...

Redneck Gourmet

The Redneck Gourmet, one of my favorite eating establishments where I live in Newnan, made the front page of CNN.com in a story about small businesses and the current economy. You can read about it here. If you get a chance, stop by and grab a burger or the chicken strips.

Ike

Keep my family and friends in Texas in your prayers. Hurricane Ike started drifting north and is on track to hit the Houston area early Saturday morning. My sister and her family, along with many others in the Houston area, are under mandatory evacuation orders. They are now at my parent's place in east Texas, but the weather could still be rough there. The current path has the eye of the storm passing 50 or so miles west of my parents, and it's still predicted to be a category 1 hurricane then.

Really?

Various news outlest are reporting that the discovery of remains of "Bigfoot" by a couple of Georgia residents is a hoax. Here a couple of lines from National Geographic's posting:*Only days after Georgia residents Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer told reporters at a press conference on Friday that they had a dead Bigfoot body, their evidence has been exposed as a rubber ape costume. The deception was made public by the very company Whitton and Dyer teamed up with to announce their supposed find. In a statement posted on the Web site of Searching for Bigfoot Inc., "Sasquatch Detective" Steve Kulls said he realized the Bigfoot "corpse" was a fake when the frozen body began to thaw—after the press conference had already taken place.*Kulls wrote that he immediately informed Searching for Bigfoot CEO Tom Biscardi about the discovery. Upon confrontation, Whitton and Dyer reportedly admitted to the hoax.A quick search on Google News turned up 786 articles for ...

Fashion cola

I read a blurb today talking about a change in Coca-Cola's image overseas. Here's what it said:Diet Coke, or as they say in Italy, Coca Light, is getting a makeover just in time for women’s fashion week in Milan at the end of September.Roberto Cavalli was picked to rev things up and the designer decked out the tiny glass bottles in three motifs featuring his staple animal spots and stripes. The limited edition bottles will be available in Italy from September through December. Cavalli compared creating looks for the 300,000 curvy containers to designing dresses for his customers, making them, "seductive and feminine, in typical Cavalli style."Here's what the bottles will look like. How do you say, "Can I have one of those ugly bottles of Coca-Cola Light" in Italian?
