Those "essays" were slightly depressing..so I'm writing a new blog.SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO according to my "Knot.com" checklist I have 51 things left to CHECK off!!!! (some of those things on the list are for AFTER the wedding) OH I'm SOOOOOOOOO excited!!!!!!!!!!In fact today I got a call by Ventura's Bridal (where I got my BEAUTIFUL dress) and it comes in at the end of this month!!! YIPPEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! I have made appointments for two days of alterations and getting the dress steamed!!! I'm WAY happy about this..it has been on my mind and sort of stressing me out..so YEA one BIGGGGGGGG relief off my shoulders! I can NOT wait to try the dress on again! And in the right size and color! The dress I tried on at the store was a champagne color and one size too big. Okay..I'll confess..before I cleaned and packed tonight I played around w/ how I want my hair for the wedding, put in my tiara and then my veil and walked around in my SHOES that just came in!!!!!!!! Oh I...

Troublesome

This week is Exam week...and goodness what a burden and sorrow I feel for the future of America. There are two parts to our Exam: 5 essays and 100 multiple choice questions. Now don't freak out...the kids wrote 3 essays last Friday (OF WHICH THEY HAD THE QUESTIONS FOR TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE TO STUDY), and 2 yesterday. The MC questions are on their 120 min finals day. Well I have graded all the essays...and oh goodness me..I will write you the topics and then some of the answers I received (please note: I ask that you don't view this as a reflection of my teaching..just their laziness):* Topic 1: Explain at least 3 reasons that led to the American Revolution.- World War 1- the Battle of Yorktown- when people don't have a lot of money- when the Indians tried to eat our Thanksgiving Dinner* Topic 2: Discuss the importance of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments. Explain their significance today.- when Abraham Lincoln made the South go to war because slavery was the cause of the Ci...

Family Traditions

I was inspired tonight from her blog about family traditions..especially around the holidays..and wanted to share w/ you all!!First I'd like to say..that I'm getting excited but yet a little sad to know that this is my last Christmas as a 'kid', under my parents' roof and traditions..and from Feb on out..I'm gonna be helping Santa out filling up the stockings..and creating our own and new traditions.Anyway..I thought I'd share what we Hawkins' do EVERY CHRISTMAS (we call it Giftmas at the house) holiday. Our Hawkins tradition is this: We first spend all December listening to Christmas music (jamming out to good old Mannheim Steamroller, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Johnny Mathis), decorating the house w/ lights and trees and old 2nd-3rd grade Christmas crafts my Mom can't bear to throw away, we make cookies for Santa, we make Gingerbread (aka: graham cracker) Houses, write letters to Santa...and cook up some talent show or skit to perform Christmas Eve night for the parents/adults...

SNOWWWWWWWWW......

Well it SNOWED last night..nothing blizzardy or anything..but a nice light beautiful and SURPRISING snow that made this morning..chilly but fun! I got outside to my car..and like clock work..I got out a credit card and started scraping my front and back windshield. I guess 9 years of Colorado snow training is still in me! The drive to work wasn't bad..not slippery or slow...just neat!!, to see all the snow on the cars and the rooftops!However..then came the bummer...all of the sudden I hear a CRACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK yes...oh yes...a LONG line from the bottom of a crack I already had on my front windshield went spreading all the way across the bottom of my front windshield. Oh it's beautiful..oh yeah. So...I will be writing a letter to Santa this morning to see if he will put a new windshield in my stocking this year.

Time of Year

Well it's the most wonderful time ...of the year....la la la.However..sadly it is also the time of year that most people are sick! I know my Momma and sister were REAL sick over the Thanksgiving holidays..and I've been fighting the sniffles and cough for the past two weeks. The only thing I can say positive about all that is this: get out of our system cuz in exactly 60days I don't want anybody sick while I'm walking down the aisle!!!60 days my friends...60 days. WHOAOOOO!!!!!! I'm so stinkin' excited! Last night I cleared one side (a half) of the closet for Ross to move his stuff in..as he is moving in w/ me after we get hitched. ...which let's just say right now ..that is way weird. I'm 26 and am pretty used to washing my dishes MY way, taking as long a shower as I want, taking up all the room on the bed and not feeling bad about it, watching whatever Disney movie I want...yeah things are going to change..and I'm WAY GLAD about it..it's just gonna be weird.

The first I introduce them to is "Steamboat Willie" it's classic, and pretty funny! Then we finish the day w/ a crossword puzzle and Disney word find. Now if I could only stop by Disney World to make this day complete! ;-)Happy Bday Walt...and happy day to us!
