Well, I'm adjusting nicely to wearing my glasses again... I'm falling a lot less, which is good... especially since I have had a 1-year old in my arms for almost the entirety of the last week. I can only imagine that going back to contacts will be yet another strange adjustment. :)
In the meantime, I think I have or am learning the secret to contentment. Being discontent is an indication that you think you should have more or better things or circumstances than you have. Contentment is believing that you have more than you deserve. Somehow that particular thought has really helped me grasp contentment in my life.
It was particularly helpful to be around my family this past week, while I was contemplating having more than I deserve. I have a GREAT family!! But, I was also glad to be able to host 5 extra adults and 2 infants in our cozy little house, and to enjoy family meals together. I am so grateful for our little home and for my family and family in-law!
Jody and Chris arrived with Sean on Sunday night, Mom and Dad flew in on Tuesday night and Tim, April and Leila were scheduled to arrive on Wednesday night in time for Bible study. On Tuesday, as Jody and I were preparing a shopping list, we called Tim to get his cookie preference for our traditional late night Starr sibling Cookies and Milk. We were excitedly discussing how much fun we were going to have when we realized that Tim and April could come a day early. Tim got off the phone to go home and help April pack and they hit the road a few hours later. (Very impressive for 2 adults and 1 baby!). We decided not to tell Mom and Dad that they were coming in early so we could surprise them.
Around 9:30 Jody, Sean and I were on our way to pick up Mom and Dad in Nashville and Tim, April and Leila were on their way to our house in BG. Through a hasty series of phone calls and light flashing, we amazingly saw each other pass on the opposite sides of the highway in the dark. It was particularly incredible because we were still trying to figure out how close we were and Tim randomly decided to flash his lights. Right then, April saw us driving the VUE. We were all shouting "I see you!!" and then laughing for about 5 minutes. So funny.
About an hour and a half later, we met at a gas station near our house. The idea was for me to run in to grab something and take Sean with me, and come out with Leila. That didn't work because didn't take into consideration that Dad would offer to run in for us. The last minute change of plans couldn't be relayed to Tim and April who hid from Dad for a few minutes before deciding that there must have been an unexpected change of plans. Tim walked up to Dad and asked if he needed help finding something. I think Dad even answered before looking up to see Tim, April and Leila standing there. And mom was surprised to see them walk out. Since she was looking for dad, she didn't see them approaching the car until they were about 10 feet away. It was a fun reaction to watch.
We got a whole extra Starr family day than originally planned, so we enjoyed that!
We even got to see Mom and Dad Casebolt a few times. I was particularly glad for that since Mom and Dad Starr have had so little visiting time with Mom and Dad Casebolt in the last 2.5 years that we have been married.
There are tons of pictures and several videos from the week, which will have to be posted soon. It was SOOO much fun! Either way, right now, I must plug along with work. 2 more weeks of work before we have a 3 week break!! |
