We're having a gospel meeting with Steve Fontenot from Humble.
It is going quite well. Sometimes I feel like all meetings are the same, with the same basic lessons over the same basic topics.
Brother Fontenot has broken the mold to some extent, as I have either learned something new or heard something related in a different way every service so far this week. He's done a very good job.
Anyway, this Friday I also get my ring! I'm fairly excited and can't wait to put that thing on my hand.
Growing up, I always looked at my Daddy's ring with awe and pride. To me, the Aggie Ring is more than just a hunk of beautiful gold, but a rite of passage into adulthood. Just as an idea of how much I've wanted one, my first week here in College Station, as a freshman, I had a dream about getting my ring. 3 years later, my dream is coming true!
I'd like to thank my mom and dad for all of their support over the years. I certainly can use a lot more, but they have certainly gone ABOVE and BEYOND what is necessary to put me in a position to succeed in life. I may just have to write an entry soon about what my parents mean to me.
Open your Bible and read 1 chapter today. And then pray to God randomly and at important points throughout your day (just don't bow your head if you are driving although I'm so talented I sometimes do).
You have GREAT parents! Congrats on your ring...you have worked hard for it and you most definitely deserve it! Can't wait to see you at Christmas either!!!
yay for your ring!!! that's how i have had your name on my blog ever since you knew when you were getting it. get ellen to send me some pics of it because i dont want to wait until whenever you come home to see it. miss you & i love you big brother :)
I have to admit.... when I moved to Aggieland back in '05 I didn't bleed maroon. Not because I was some delusional Tech fan or something like that. I'd moved from Texas when I was 15 and just thought little about college here. But, once I got here, this place slowly eroded away any apathy I had towards traditions and events. "Priding" myself as something of a world traveler I soon began to notice how different A&M was from so much else… even the rest of the world. All too often people tend to look down on their own backyard as it were. Someone will love the gondolas of Venice but find the barges of San Antonio’s Riverwalk tacky or lame. Aggieland truly has a culture and heritage all its own so rich that it soars head of shoulders what any other school offers in terms of genuine, unique experience. But, the culmination for me was the day I got my aggie ring. Never having worn any kind of ring on my hands prior, it felt so foreign and somewhat clunky, but as time went by, it grew on me and now without it, my hand feels incomplete. For me, the Aggie Ring encapsulates everything dear and grand about our school and the indelible impression it leaves on us all. So, in my mind, I might have been attending A&M for years, but I didn't become a full-blooded Aggie 'til I put that ring on. Congratulations on this huge accomplishment Josh!
YOU are the blessing to us! Through the years, we've been excited about your accomplishments. But we are definitely thrilled over you getting your ring tomorrow! Just know we love you and will always be there to share in the joys of this life as we encourage eachother to live for that heavenly home. love you
well today is the day! We are so happy for you and proud of your accomplishments! Congratulations! You'll have to come with Ellen next time so we can see it!!
My transmission is slowly fading out on it haha. The guy said i would have to put a new one in in 6 months or less so when i get home my dad will get his onsite mechanic to do everything and just use it as a work truck and i get a new one.
Yeah, I mean after all... just because successful people work hard for what they have and I've dropped out of high school with no GED I'm still ENTITLED to everything I want including: free housing, clothes, food and not to mention disposable cash to be wasted on opiates and barbiturates. GOBAMA!
I had a great time man. Yeah i've been trying to get better haha. we've been working out so it's definately helping. Hope we can do it again real soon.
I don't know but that's a good guess, we didn't think about her actually feeling it go down...and yes...Dylan has adapted that song to EVERYTHING we tell him to eat :) I think it's time for you to post something new...isn't something special going to happen Friday?!?! ;)
I guess everyone in the world needs to know a little about me so I don't mind doing a public service.
8 Facts about Josh
1. I am one of the shyest people you know...and I used to be so much worse...but I've learned over the last 4-5 years how to somewhat overcome it.
2. I've passed out twice in my life, both because I skipped a previous meal (1st time= after band practice because I skipped lunch, 2nd time= when I woke up after skipping dinner...neither were fun experiences--although somewhat mind boggling)
3. I am a recovering video game addict...as of today it has been 2 days since I've played some type of video game (I imagine the streak will end soon...I am recovering...not fully healed)
4. I was the co-captain of my 4A Varsity Tennis Team in high school my Senior year...just goes to show you my extreme athleticism...on the same point, I enjoy playing football and baseball as well and will indulge on other things as well if someone else wants to play (i.e. basketball)
5. I watched about 43 Aggie sporting events live last year (not including games I watched on TV), mostly Aggie Baseball. I am very dearly missing ESPN and similar sports broadcasting over the last month.
6. I only applied to Texas A&M. It's the only place I've ever wanted to go to school. It's also the first time I've ever been completely proud of my school.
7. Being a biologist, I have a unique higher evolutionary theory predicting future human flight. (read about it in my 6-27-07 blog...I dont know how to link it but its about 55 entries ago)
8. I've learned to enjoy preaching and will be doing so again shortly (Oct. 12?)
Bonus!
9. I really love Ellen...I'm not one for disgustingly lovey dovey posts, but this is sort of a pretty big fact about me. Just thought you should know if by some chance you didn't already ;)
-Really hope the VP debate goes well tomorrow night
-School's going well
-Going home this weekend
I'M SHY TOO!!! i went with my dad to so many Gospel Meetings that i kinda had to choke down the shyness and meet new people ... i use to use hyperness as a cover for my shyness ... yay for shy people
hahaha...HQ is just in lubbock, i think for the beginning it might just be a temporary captial....till we cement command, then we could rename waxahachie something patriotic....perhaps just D.C....for Davey Crockett, Derek Coulson, District of Conservatism...lots of options
well i went home for the first time this past weekend so that explains the secound vid. and the third one is a knock on the gov. and the first one well don't wry i'm still alive haha
I dunno...our campus is pretty much buzzing about the game sat already. Cant imagine how hyped up the team is gonna be. Lots of things pointing our way at least...it oughta be good....
Just so some of you know my history with the aggie ring:
- I've grown up looking at my dad's ring. That ring is a rite of passage to me in that regard. It signifies all the hard work I have put into my education and life
-The week before my freshman year I had a very realistic dream of holding and wearing my aggie ring
-I miscounted my hours and by chance found that I had 95 at the very end of August this year
-This ring will no doubt be my second favorite/most meaningful ring for the rest of my life
dad made an announcement to everyone in corpus today that you are getting your ring. im so happy for you!! have you decided the whole which kind.. you know how dad's is gold with the darker stuff on it or how some are just gold?
That's cool! and my ring looks a lot like yours...only yours will be authentic and mine has those two little letters WT before A&M but you can only tell if you look really close =) for real though, Congrats
hey man, I just wanted to give you some "props" on the stealth cat video. You were way ahead of the internet curve on that puppy (pun intended and inferred). Since I saw the link from your blog, it has been all over tv!
I mentioned in my last post about my classes (possibly changing before tomorrow 5pm). One of those classes was Medical Ethics.
Now there are some things we've discussed in the first 2 days that I don't agree with, but the overall focus of the class is not to teach you to like SOCIALIZED healthcare, or SUPPORT/OPPOSE abortion or anything like that, but rather to teach you to be able to justify your beliefs with an ethical response.
Anyway, today in class we discussed Health Care.
1) Examples of healthcare--
-preventative care
-emergency care
-diagnostics
-surgery
-geriatrics
-pre-natal
-oncology
-pediatric
-intensive
-cosmetic
-genetic
-dental
-hospice
-etc.
Thats stuff I believe we could all come up with when asked that question.
Now for more philosophical questions...
A) What are the Goals and Aims of Healthcare?
B) What is the value of healthcare as related to those goals/aims?
C) What are the principles of distribution based on those values of healthcare?
D) What could be the final result?
I'll answer this with my own thoughts later, but think deeply and ethically and morally about these questions before you answer (if you choose to)
I know this isn't necessarily a fun post (its kinda political) but it's important to think about the future of health care.
I think there are 3 main goals/aims to healthcare...1 is to maintain/restore normal functioning. 2 is to prevent death/disability. 3 is to relieve pain/suffering. If there are more add them, but thats all I could come up with.
Hey dude! hope school is going well! who is your teach? i took med ethics as well and loved it and my amazing prof Dr. Gert. If you remain in the class and need any insight into the way the class is set up or have any queries, give me a holla.
i did some volunteer work w/ a physical therapist, her answer is :healthcare is supposed to get people back to their normal condition so they can enjoy life
i found a basketball version of your amazing soccer video. :) it's at http://www.todaysbigthing.com/2008/07/09 ( i don't know how you do the links...hmmm)
