Ever have those days when you just can't seem to get motivated to do anything? Yeah...those lazy days. That's about how I feel right now. It's 10:45 and I just rolled out of bed about 15 minutes ago. I haven't slept in that late in so many years. Maybe the holiday busyness has finally caught up with me and my body's telling me to sleep!
Not that I WANT to sleep that late. I have things to do, people to see, and places to go. I need to put up the Christmas decorations. I'm going to a movie with my mom. I need to go to the store and pick up a few things. But, I just haven't gotten the motivation yet.
Maybe this morning's sleep will perk me up a bit. That and a few cups of coffee. It's time for a normal routine again - going to bed at a decent time, getting up the same time every morning, and going to work. Sounds boring, yes, but I think it's just what I need. I definitely never thought I'd say that I "needed" work to keep me sane and normal. Ha!
Hoping you have a great day, whether an Eeyore day or otherwise.
I hope you aren't having an Eeyore kind of day today. I hope the movie and stuff was fun. I also hope that you and Josh have a Happy New Year! I haven't forgotten about you guys. Oh and guess what...I found me some Apple Butter down here. Finally I know where to get some here in Texas. ;) I hope the Holidays were great for the both of you. Take care.
I'm having a friend and her boyfriend and the preacher over for dinner tonight before church. The boyfriend is from out of town and I know the friend has hyped up mine and my mother's cooking, so I need to impress. And, because it's New Year's Eve and I'm really and truly sick of eating heavy stuff, I figured a good old pot of soup would do the trick for dinner.
But for dessert, I needed to shine! I had told Joshua when we visited Boston that Boston Cream Pie (technically a cake, not a pie) was really good, but the one restaurant where we got it up there didn't know how to fix it right. I told him I'd fix it for him one day. That day would be today.
I scoured through a few websites in the last 5 minutes of the work day yesterday and then finally found one at home last night that I could make. It didn't sound that difficult and I had pretty much everything on hand. I didn't want to take the easy way out and use a plain box mix, so I made it from scratch. I thought the cake looked a little funny last night because it didn't rise very much, but I went ahead and made the whole thing. Then the chocolate "glaze" (which was really more like a very thick frosting) didn't turn out so well, but still I carried on. I put it in the fridge last night and hoped for the best.
Upon our 12:00 early release today from work, I ran home to check the cake. I was so worried about it and figured that sampling a small slice would be fine. It's a good thing I did because that thing tasted terrible! I don't know what happened, but the cake part was awful and the chocolate was so hard I could barely cut into it. Into the garbage disposal went the cake and off to the grocery I went. Fortunately, I had printed off a few recipes at work this morning, so I had a few others to work from. I pieced together two that sounded good, so we'll see.
Round #2, this cake tastes delicious. I took them out of the oven (they're still made from scratch) and a few bits were left on the cake. They're cooling now and then I need to make the filling and frosting. Only 2 1/2 hours until the guests arrive, so I need to get busy with this thing.
I hope they appreciate all that I went through with this cake. If it turns out, I'll be sure to write down exactly what I did with it so I won't have so much trouble next time.
Happy New Year everybody! Hope it's great for you. Eat cake first!
I made a boston creme pie fairly recently that turned out really good even though it fell against the side of the cake carrier when DH made a sharp turn.
Here it is complete with the recipe. I have to say, the chocolate ganache was REALLY good...I think it made the cake! Make sure you sift the confectioners sugar if you can before adding it.
I just got an email from our HR manager that our office is closing tomorrow at 12:00 for the New Year's Eve festivities! I'm so excited I can hardly sit still long enough today to get my work done. Too bad we have to work on Friday, but I can live with that. At least it will be a Friday.
What are your plans for NYE? We're heading to some friends' house after services for a party. I'm not sure if we'll stay through midnight, though. I told my mom the other day that I knew I was getting old when my first thought of NYE was to just stay home and do some chillin' out, maxin, relaxin' all cool, and all shootin' some B-ball outside of the school...sorry, had to break into song there. But, alas, we're going to the party. I'm sure we'll have fun there, too.
So, back to work I go for now. Let's see if I can focus enough today now that I have great news.
Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day! :P We're kind of hoping to come straight home after class. I'm too old and the kids are too young for staying up that late. If a relative really wants to do something and we can spend the night there, we might consider it. We're really wild, aren't we?
Miss Sherri and James are coming over and we are playing the Wii. And we are going to watch the Jonas Brothers on Dick Clarks Rockin New Years Eve..... Forgot to tell you that Aunt Sandra is expecting us to be up that night...they are going to have some beds ready for us ;)
You are hillarious. Thanks for the Fresh prince reference ;-) Fred and I usually get wings from our favorite place here and watch movies. This year our church is meeting at a school after services to have a talent(less) show and festivities :-)
Us old folks are coming home after services and probably falling asleep on the couch. We were invited to the same party, but with these colds we're fighting, we thought it would be best to come home. Have fun!
I'm feeling rather ill after eating WAY too much good food over the last few days. I can't remember feeling this ill in years past, and I've even tried to be good. I guess there comes a point when you just can't try hard enough and I'm pretty sure I've reached it. Miserable just doesn't even begin to describe my physical state at this point.
Now, that's not to say that I haven't had a wonderful Christmas holiday. Gift cards, perfumes, food, clothes, 12 Southern Living Christmas soup bowls (best surprise of the year, thanks to Joshua), food, books, CD's, jewelry, did I mention food, and Santa even brought a tiny laptop for Joshua and me. I'm having a hard time getting used to the smaller keyboard - the whole thing is only 10 inches across! Yes, Santa was good this year.
And of course, being with family and friends has been excellent. There have been so many good dinners and parties over the past week and it's been great to be around everyone. The thought of January's arrival almost seems dull and boring compared to the last 2 weeks in December. That - I'm not looking forward to.
Hope you all had a great Christmas! I'm almost positive it's time for a diet, or something of that sort.
