random happenings 11-07-07 01:48pm CST
The other day, I bought Jackson a goldfish. He loves to watch the fish when we go to Walmart or the pet store, plus I already had a small tank. I also found a small crab that is supposed to be good for cleaning the bottom of the tank. So we brought them home and I set it up on our bookshelf where he can see it. I think it was the next day that I found the crab clutching the goldfish in his claws (tiny claws) and EATING HIM!! It was horrifying- Josh and I got the net and tried to grab the fish away, but the crab wouldn't let go and kept trying to grab him back. It was awful. We finally got him away and it was too late- he had to be flushed. Last night we bought a new companion for the crab- a red siamese fighter. If the crab can take him on, I guess he's the champion. But so far, they are both alive.
Today on the way back from the store, Jackson was in the back looking at his old macdonald book and I thought I heard him say "eep" then "a-a-a-a-a". I got to a stop sign, looked back and sure enough he was looking at the sheep page! It is amazing how many things he has started saying all at once, just in the last few weeks! So much more fun that he can try to tell us things instead of just whining and crying (which still happens on occasion.) =o) His birthday is coming fast- I can't wait for him to have some cake and open presents.
On another topic, I have grown tired of having hundreds of plastic grocery bags. I reuse what I can and I try to recycle them occasionally at Walmart, but I have so many! So at the grocery store, I have started taking my own. I love it! I thought it would be a hassle, but a load that usually would take about 10 plastic bags will fit in just 2 or 3 cloth ones. Kroger sells some nice ones for $.99 and I also have some other random ones. And, Kroger now gives a $0.05 discount for each bag that you bring (doesn't even have to be theirs!). Try it sometime- you might be convinced. Not to mention, it's a great thing for the earth!
Hope you are having a good day and enjoying the weather! I think we're headed to the park after naptime.
mother_henwow, he's reading and he's not even a year yet!
spike427i have been meaning to buy some cloth grocery bags. so much easier to cart in from the car, i bet! :)
yay for smart reading boy!
i had to snicker at the fish story. sad but...funny! ;)
leahsparksI have a long rectangular laundry bag that I keep in my car to take the bags in...I need to get some cloth bags though... Isn't it amazing how quickly babies learn things! Sorry about the fish...I'm hoping our beta survives the 1000 mile trip... It should be interesting with a 4 yr old, a (almost) 2 yr old, a great dane & a fish... No crabs in his bowl though....
ex_patI have a few bags myself. Some of the stores here actually charge you if you use bags. Of course the cloth ones are good for anything from church bags to mall bags.
sperkyhey that's a good idea...i hadn't tried the shower door yet! that's hilarious about the fish... 1 year old, what better time to learn about the cold hard facts of life and death right? :) man, i wish there were a kroger within an hour and a half of our house- i could start a small business. :) see you guys soon!
LizWilcoxHey, do you happen to worship with Cara Owen? I noticed you worship in Nacogdoches Tx.
LizWilcoxHow funny! Yes she is. I think she's either a junior or senior. We miss her a bunch. :)
notcoolThat fish story is hilarious! Well, not for the fish :-(
Good job on the bags. I've been meaning to do that for months.
sperkyheh, yah his hair's a mess. i both really want and really don't want to cut it, but either way it needs doing soon. people STILL ask me if he's a gril. he doesn't really dance yet, but we're working on it!
mother_henSorry I missed you on Sunday. I saw you out of the corner of my eye, but somehow it didn't click until that afternoon. 'twas too late by then! Hope y'all have a great Thanksgiving and Birthday Party! How exciting!
raifhausNice to "meet" you. I'm Amy :)
Your little one is precious. Guess he's had his birthday by now? And send some of your walmart bags down here.. we're always running out ;)
aggiemegHi! Thanks for the advice. We shut his door and, so far, he can't open it. We also put one of those door knob safety things on the inside of his door just in case he figures out how to turn knobs without our knowing it. He still prefers to sleep on the floor right next to the door. Maybe I should just give in and let him :)
satbYour boys are growing so fast! We just celebrated Nathan's first birthday last week. He is so much fun! I wish we could see him more often. It would be great to see your family, too.

Colorado 09-03-07 10:39am CST
We returned last week from a trip to Colorado- specifically Denver and Estes Park (Rocky Mountain National Park). What a beautiful place! We were in awe the entire time at everything we saw! And the weather was incredible- really put me in the holiday spirit, a couple of months early. =o)
We also were able to visit with Josh's brother Joel, and my sister-in-law. Joel just began his pediatric residency at Denver Children's. He is super busy, so we only saw him a little, but we got to spend lots of time with Lindsay. She is officially a favorite of Jackson's! He took right to her and even gave her lots of kisses! That is one of his favorite things to do now- give people kisses.

I think we are done with our travels at least for the rest of football season. We were very blessed to be able to visit so many beautiful places this summer! Now Go Ags!!
spike427great photos! some of those sites are breathtaking - i would love to go sometime!
love the one of jackson conked out on the hike - too cute! :) glad y'all had a safe trip.
anneYa'll look great! What good pictures. I can almost smell the air...Colorado air smells different. Don't you love high mountain lakes?!
missyBeautiful pictures!
jeniferbeasleyhey, planning a trip up to see george anytime soon? i would love to see you and let the little boys play and we could visit!
jeniferbeasleyglad you had a good time in CO. sheri is really enjoying getting to know lindsay and joel!
larieYou guys are traveling fools! Great pictures. We miss you guys!
larieWhere did you get your baby backpack? It looks really sturdy. We have been looking for one for our trip to SC later this month
leahsparksWe were in that same area in June! I posted pictures on my blog...it was so cold & we saw lots of snow! It was great! We really loved it there too... Then we visited with Dan & Sheri & they said that Lindsay & Joel were moving there or had just moved there... We didn't want to come back to the Texas weather!
larieWow, that is cool. I didn't know you could rent baby stuff like that. We are leaving on Sept. 22.
leahsparksIt is crazy how much snow there was just a couple of months ago. We LOOOOVED it. The girls didn't want to leave...they just wanted to make snow balls! My cousin got married in Vale so we spent about 2 weeks traveling around. So nice!
sperkyhaha! yep..it's pretty much the only way i can get a smile out of him! ;) looking forward to seeing you guys saturday...will it work out ok for luke to borrow your packnplay for naps when we're over there? if not just let me know so i can bring ours. :) see you soon!
notcoolthat brought back such wonderful memories. Matt and I went to Colorado, (the same spots you did) about 8 years ago. We hiked and drove up to the tundra.... well as far up as I could stand it. I kind of freaked out and hyper-ventilated. We camped in Rocky Mountain nat'l park. Some of your pictures looked so familiar. We were in awe of the beauty. Our best vacation ever. BTW, is your husband a pilot or what?
melissakaeOh I LOVE Estes Park!!! :-)
kristasfathanks for the tip!!! That sounds like a great way to go!
leahsparksThanks!
ilovepondsEstes Park and all of CO are just about my favorite places to visit for the beauty and glory to be seen in His creation.
johnandleahThank you for your thoughts. It means a lot to know others can see the other side of an issue as well :)

Back in the States.... 08-04-07 07:41pm CST
Back home! Hard to believe that just this morning we were in beautiful Cancun, on our way back home from Costa Rica. We spent a week in a beautiful spot by the water and we got to share it with some family. The 2 little cousins had a lot of fun together, and were really good sports for all of the long plane rides and car rides. I think they are both very happy to be back in their own beds. (I hope yours is still in his bed as I write this!) We got to see lots of beautiful things and met a really sweet nicaraguan family. Between the 4 of us, we communicated pretty well! It was so fun- see for yourself! I hope you enjoy the sunset pictures as much as I do- don't you agree that Josh should go professional? =o)
yostWow! Those pictures were breathtaking. Glad ya'll had a great time!

spike427i hadn't looked at his 7 mo. pictures - so cute! i love the crazy hat!!
larieWell, I'm glad that you guys had a good time. Sorry Jackson was sick too. It's not very fun being away from home with a sick baby. :)
ex_patcute. Glad you had fun. We are headed to Norway. (and hr. flight for us)
anneThe sunset pictures were stunning, especially the first one! Looks like the little cousins enjoyed themselves, too. Was Jackson crawling or doing a push up?

A fun trip 07-21-07 09:01am CST
My mom, Jackson, and I just returned from sunny California where we spent a few days in San Diego. It was beautiful- perfect weather! Nice to get away from the rainforest we live in. We saw some family and also did lots of sightseeing. I wish I knew how many miles we walked! a LOT.
Jackson was an angel for the whole trip- he was great on both plane rides and perfect while traveling around. He was so excited everywhere we went and smiled at everyone. We went to the zoo, the beach, and all over downtown. It was a wonderful trip!
Here he is riding the carousel in Seaport Village- just like a big boy!
dhudginsHe looks like a big boy for sure on that carousel...like he's always ridden horses!
