My favorite Disney song is "Just around the Riverbend" from Pocahontis. The song reminds me of prayer and how God answers prayer. The song says, "The water's always changing....people, I guess can't live like that...To be safe, we lose our chance of ever knowing what's around the riverbend....I look once more." People make plans, but their plans might not be what's best for them. The song makes me think of "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Mt. 6: 33). If people make their plans flexible and live for God then God will give them what is best for them. "Seek, and you will find (Mt. 7: 7)."
The song says "the gulls fly free don't know what for." The phrase "don't know what for" used some in the song reminds me that God knows why He created all good things. He knows what is best for His creation. Jesus talked about the birds that God watches (Mt. 6: 26). The verse was saying that He knows what's best for people too.
Then the song said, "Should I marry Kocoum? Is all my dreaming at an end? Or do you still wait for me, dream giver just around the riverbend?" God is the real Dream Giver. The song probably was not about God, but it reminds me of His blessings for all people's futures and from people's prayers. Pocahontis did not want the plan for her to marry Kocoum. She hoped for her dreams to be in her future. She said, "Or do you still wait for me dream giver?" She wanted to live her dream. The song reminds me that people should ask God to bless them. If we ask God faithfully for blessings, He will bless us. Pocahontis wondered if the dream giver would answer her dreams. God might sometimes say no to specifically what people ask from Him, but He will still bless people with good. "Just around the Riverbend" is a beautiful song that reminds me of prayer.
Prayer always helps me alot when I pray... alot of times I have the wrong attitude and I don't pray with the right heart but I have found that everytime I have prayed with the right heart significant differences were alweays evident and I don't even go to church...
It seems like peopple do not respect each other like they should. People are too quick to laugh at others when something embarrassing or awkward happens to the one they take lightly. Some people have trouble respecting and honoring their parents. That is one of my struggles. Honor is raising someone else high in your thoughts. Respect shows people you think highly of them. Some people do not struggle with treating others with respect as much as others. All people have their own struggle they can handle with God's help. The people who are strong in respect and honor can be good examples for the ones who struggle in that way. Praise the Lord! There are people who can excel in respect and encourage people like me who need to grow more in repect and honor.
I think our society teaches us to dismiss anyone who doesn't live up to our personal ideals. As Christians, we have to take a contrary position. We have to learn to humble ourselvesin favor of a brother or sister. Talk about a hard pill to swallow! Yet, we know the greatest shall be made the least and the least shall become the greatest! That's a pretty good reason to obey God!
I also have trouble honoring and respecting my parents as I should. I believe I have been working harder at it though. It's common when you're a teenager to be rebelious, but our society encourages it and it really is no excuse to be disrespectful. I appreciate your thoughs, Amy.
sometimes people laugh because they are embarrassed. I've noticed that. It is like a nervous habit because they can relate to the person slipping on the banana peel or stuff like that. i think psychologists or whoever did a study of people and the laughing at physical pratfalls as long as the person isn't hurt has been part of human nature. You are in real good self control to look past it. :)
I appreciate the bigger picture of what you are saying. I know I love and appreciate my parents and see them as a blessing, but I need to learn how to talk calmer when I am defending my point or opinion to them.
What I see as standing up for myself at times, they see as disrespect. I never roll my eyes but I do get emotional if I feel they don't understand me.
I should say that my parents have always encouraged open conversation and emotion in the family so that might give me the impression that i can be free-er with my opinions when they differ.
Wow! I need to get on pleonast more often. It is important to keep in touch with friends. The life of a person is very short. It doesn't usually even come to one-hundred years. People enter each other's lives for long or short periods of time. However all social encounters are important because each soul is very valuable. No soul can be duplicated. Each person's soul is one-of-a-kind. It follows the economic principle of value. What is valuable depends on want and rarity. Each individual person is rare and is wanted by at least Some One (God who lovingly realizes human value), so every person is a valuable treasure. The relationship is an important thing because it contains people who realize how valuable each person involved is. People should work harder to consider the people in their lives because people are wonderful, valuable souls. People should realize that they do not have much time to spend it on others. Sometimes I go through my day without many thoughts of the people I have encountered throughout my life. Of all the less important things that enter my mind I wish I would have thought of people in my life instead of wasting my time on something else. God in His All-Knowing way helped people strenghten their relationships through communication. Praise the Lord! :') I'm sorry for not blogging in a while. Pleonast helps long-distance friends keep in touch.
I love you all.
May the Lord increase my love for you all.
Heather is at camp this week with the Ohio campers of 2007. Ohio Florida College camp is good stuff packed into one week. There are sports, Bible studies, misc. activiites, etc. I really miss the singings. The campers have their own favorite thing about camp. What is your favorite thing about camp?
