Well, my blog was hacked by my loving husband. Ha! Although, as many of you suggested, it is not far fetched from something I would write ... such as my Sea Cucumber Appreciation Day. I got a good laugh out of the marmals- thanks Tim! Actually, he was going to put it on his own blog, but thought people would think someone had hacked into his blog to put it up- so he thought, why not do that himself? Ha!
I had a *wonderful* breakfast this morning. Tim brought me a very European breakfast- my favorite! Slices of french bread, cheese (including muenster- delicious!) and ham, with pretty little containers of melted butter, cream cheese, and preserves. There was also a variety of fruit and little glass dishes of yogurt. A teapot of my favorite Assam tea was the final touch. I must say that is the PERFECT breakfast. My husband knows me well! He had heard me talk before about how much I enjoy European-style breakfast, so apparently he called Mom to get the details of what that entailed then put it all together... simply lovely! :)
Glad the breakfast turned out well : It sure looks pretty and yummy. I like that kind of breakfast. I also like biscuits and gravy: ) Two totally different breakfasts, but both yummy: ) I do enjoy breakfast, but don't cook it most days.
Oops: ) I just reread the comments below and saw mine. It says we were in the *dessert*, not the *desert*. That makes a lot more sense, but may be less yummy
Hi April! I like breakfast. I like pancakes; I like bacon; I like muffins and I like eggs. I like oatmeal; I like blueberries, raspberries, blackberries too. I like applesauce and I like strawberries. I like apple pie and I like cheese. Yuuummmmmyyyyy Breakfasts! ps when I was small if my mom made apple pies she would make at least 5 - 10 pies. We'd have pie for breakfast. That might be my favorite, followed by a Baldwin apple with cheddar cheese. Or maybe toasted European style bread with melted Muenster cheese. You know - all that sounds good for any meal!
Happy Birthday!! Your breakfast sounds yummy! My favorite would be fruit salad, some kind of crusty bread toasted (preferably w/sesame seeds) with butter and homemade jam, and strong coffee. Oh, and my husband and children sharing it with me!
been keeping the brace on, and the wrist was feeling MUCH better by the weekend....then had it off while getting ready Sun morning, moved the wrist the wrong way, and ouch! And it hurt all day Sunday. Today is a little better again.
Hello April!! I made your "Amazingly Good Eggnog" from last year and it was a big hit! Thanks for the recipe! Hope you are all going good and enjoying time with family. Lord willing, we'll be home next weekend and at church on Sunday. Love ya!
Oh, no! Sorry to hear you're out of the fitness challenge. I'm always afraid that's just what will happen to me! You did great to be in so long. Will you keep doing the 20 min.? I'm curious about your Eggnogg recipe.
Hi April, I just saw your note in he exercise group. That's exactly what happened to me. I thought I would keep it up but I have not exercised a day (well one day I did walk to our mailbox and back, about a mile) since. I thought I'd keep it up. But also, I'm planning a wedding - January 10th- and I think if I had another thing on my mind during this past month it might have been a bit much - although I should be exercising especially now! I hope they'll start another challenge soon!
When you buy Marmal-aid Marmalade you help comfort, protect and save the Marmals. With every purchase of Marmal-aid Marmalade we will donate one quarter of/or 25% of our profits to the Marmal-aid Marmalade Save the Marmals Foundation. Knowing that you're helping the marmals, you'll cherish and treasure the purchase of Marmal-aid Marmalade just as much as each deliciously tarty bite of Marmal-aid Marmalade.
Much like the word "kiwi", "marmal" refers to both a small fuzzy flightless bird and a small fuzzy fruit (also flightless) as well as being an informal - but not derogatory - term for the native people of an island in the South Pacific. The help sponsored by the Marmal-aid Marmalade Save the Marmals Foundation reaches out to all of these classifications of marmals.
You can also aid the marmals by making a donation to the Marmal-aid Marmalade Save the Marmals Foundation. Any size donation will help! You can become a Golden-Aide Marmal-aid Marmalade Marmal Saver by making a pledge of 100$ or more! As a Golden-Aide member you'll not only have the ability to designate which classification of marmals your donation goes to, but you'll also receive a snazzy gift-to-be-named-later! Make a pledge today!
This does sound like a Tim thing, but it could be an April thing. I wonder if April remembers when we were in the dessert out west and didn't realized just how uncivilized some areas were. We had no food, so we stopped at a lone gas station. Scott went inside and emerged with bread, peanut butter and orange marmalade which fed us for a few meals. Needless to say, some of the kids still don't choose orange marmalade.
Ha! This was great! Oh, and as your resident New Zealand expert (and one whose non-Pleo screenname includes the word "kiwi", and one whose cat is named "Kiwi"), I feel it is my duty to inform you that the "island in the South Pacific" is actually two islands...plus a couple of smaller ones. But that's just getting technical with your comparison. And you were right about the flightless fruit part anyway. :)
Well, our computer is currently out of order, so I'm at the library right now checking up on a couple things on line. Its amazing how many times a day I use the Internet- I'm only noticing now because I can't! I tell you what though, I'm glad I kept a copy of the Yellow Pages even though Tim originally thought it was a waste of space- I've needed it since I can't look up numbers and other info online! Anyway, not sure how long we'll be offline, but I decided to post this here in case anyone tries to contact me via e-mail or anything. Signing off, from the library.
If my internet was down I would have to crack open those cookbooks sitting on my shelf, call and *gasp* speak to people on the phone, and buy a book of stamps to pay bills, even resort to balancing a check book on a paper statement. Wow, that is just a few things off hand that I thought up.
I was going to say, let us know if you want to come over and use the internet. But then I realized that you won't get this message unless you are already on the internet. Oh well.
Bummer!!! I know what you mean...I use the internet through out the whole day to check on really stupid stuff...(bank, directions, recipes, how to get certain stains out, all the blogs, etc...) See you Sunday, I hope you're not out of a computer for too long!
Luckily I can get online with my phone... if I lost both my computer & my phone and needed to find information, I'd just curl up in a corner and cry =)
Judah named his baby doll Leila. Miss you guys! Nathan bought a web cam...hope we can figure out how to use it soon! And hope you get your computer up and running again soon. It is hard to be without!
I'm very project oriented. I get really excited about new projects! Unfortunately, I'm better at coming up with ideas for neat things to do than ever finishing them. *sigh*
I recently took a personality test that classified me as an ENFP. And its description was so scarily accurate, even down to this: "ENFPs have what some call a "silly switch." They can be intellectual, serious, all business for a while, but whenever they get the chance, they flip that switch and become CAPTAIN WILDCHILD, the scourge of the swimming pool, ticklers par excellence. Sometimes they may even appear intoxicated when the "switch" is flipped."
AAAAH! Any of you who really know me well has seen that switch flipped. *hangs head in embarrassment*
All of that is to say that the description also described me as better at starting projects than finishing them. Things that HAVE to get done, DO get done- don't worry, I'm not going to stop mid-diaper change and send Leila off au naturale, nor am I going to finish cooking the spaghetti sauce only to serve it over raw noodles. Non-necessary thing, like sewing projects and what not, are the things I tend to start and never finish.
Are any of you on the website 43Things.com? It's pretty spiffy ... and pretty simple. Its a site to make your list of 43 things you want to do! Or fewer things, if you want, but its just more fun to have 43. ;) When you've accomplished the goal, you can check it off and it is added to you "I've Done This" list. You can cheer other people on their goals that you think are worthwhile. And you can post about your progress on your goals on the discussion board for that goal. You can write the goals yourself, or, what I prefer, is to search the site to see if others are already working toward the same goal, just worded differently, and add the goal to your list from there. (For instance, you may be the only person who wants to "Make a photo journal of each month", but 53 other people might have the goal "Keep a monthly photo journal."
This site is handy for me because when I get a chance to work on something, I can look at this list and continue something I've started ... instead of what usually happens- I can never remember what projects I had going and think of yet another something to start. Fortunately, I don't have much time for projects, or the apartment would be overrun with half-finished schemes and supplies!
My 43 Things are not just projects, however. It can be anything you want to do ... important, trivial, quick, long term- whatever! I have tried to limit my list to things that are check-off-able, though, which is why there's no "Be an excellent wife and mother" goal, because when do you say "ok, I've done that- check it off!"? True, some will never actually come off the list, such as "Read my Bible everyday" but it is something I can mentally check off everyday. And some, like "have 5 or 6 kids" will be accomplished someday, Lord willing, but not for a long time yet!
Just to give you an idea, the first 10 things on my list (the list is really in no particular order):
1. Sew an apron
2. Read my Bible everyday
3. Learn to make hand tossed pizza dough
4. Improve my posture
5. Visit 10 new places in my city
6. Exercise 20 minutes everyday
7. Take an alphabet of photos
8. Sell things on Etsy
9. Develop my own homemade salsa recipe
10. Write a hymn
Hi April - I think I'm that kind of person too - an ENFP - ooh oohh. I may have grown out of it a bit, but I describe it as the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" type person and I hop from crisis to crisis, but then suddenly I'm standing there and thinking "I know I have important things and chores to do, what are they?" sort of an attitude. Then I just might wonder over to pleo and ooh oh again!
Seems like we should get together more...at least we could probably listen to each other's music without complaining! (And read each other's books?) : )
Spotted your question on herblog. I think the original was Copa Cabana. Though I have to admit, I keep wanting to say Star Wars Cantina (another parody!). :)
leahhallnoats is a high school nickname I got from my Biology teacher. It's a spoof off of the band Hall and Oates, and leahhallnoats just kind of stuck with me. :)
Hey, I think I need that. I'm not good at finishing non-essential projects either. We're looking forward to having your dad here with us in a couple of weeks!
Well, I actually bought a packet of seasoning from the store, then I breaded the chicken in flour, browned them, and then added the seasoning, soy sauce, and water. It was really yummy!
Well, most of you have probably seen the slide-show video on Tim's blog that he made of Leila's first year. I was so tickled that he made that! I think we got that idea from the Dials when we saw their kids birthday videos.
If you didn't see it though, here are a few pictures from her birthday.
In one picture you see she is holding her pinwheel ... we got that for her because she got really excited about the pinwheels at Wal-mart and loved it when we would blow on it to spin while we were shopping. Well, that was a while before her birthday, but when she opened up her pinwheel on her birthday she remembered right away and held it up and started blowing! The doll was from Bev at church and Leila has just loved it. You can see her kissing it. :)
In other news, I have been reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and it is been so helpful! I really didn't expect a whole lot when I started reading it, but I'm enjoying it far more than I expected. In fact Tim and I each got our own copies at a used bookstore here in town (I love McKay's!).
Speaking of McKay's Tim and I went there alone the other night- Elissa was sweet enough to offer watching Leila for a couple hours one evening so we took her up on it! Here is the anatomy of a cheap date:
Dinner at Chick-fil-A:...........................$6.94
(with a coupon and splitting
a drink and fries)
Nice back-massager:...........................$0.98
(we had a gift card)
9 old Hitchcock movies from McKay's:.....$7.60
12 books from the free bin
at McKay's:.......................................$0.00
(including 3 antique
Pearl S. Buck books and
a neat Usborne book about
sea life)
: ) Glad you had fun...I'd go to Chick-fil-a for a date, but we don't have any here! We usually eat there more than once in Indy when we go through there! Did you ever find that third WoT book?
I'm loving how creative people have been lately to save some cash. I found a couple good websites too, some w/ online coupons but several are printable. Every penny counts!
Cute pics. Looks like she really got into her cake. Our boy didn't get the idea, or else he just didn't like the cake. He poked at it a little, but that's about it! I'm jealous of your date. :) We need a used bookstore over here . . . that has English books, of course!
My favorite dates with my husband are spending time at the book store.
A place like Barnes and Noble is the best, we can get coffee and great dessert and then read book after book and or magazines that we would never buy.
Hi there...I noticed you posted what you were having for dinner as pot roast over spaghetti squash. Can you tell me how to make spaghetti squash? I've been wanting to try it for a while, but don't know where to start.
