This year, I had the opportunity to attend FC Texas Winter Camp. I'm happy to say I was there. Our family travels to Colorado every other Christmas break, so last year I was a no-show, and next year I will be again. It makes me sad to imagine missing another camp, but I'm so thankful that I can go the times it's convenient. Winter camp, I've decided is my preference. For 5 reasons.
There aren't as many folks there. Of course, there are some that can't make it (insert links to all of you who missed out this year), which makes us all sad. I enjoyed getting the opportunity to make new friends, grow closer with old ones, and get to better know those who I don't know as well.
I love that we have so much down time. Without it, we don't have as much time to do any of the activities I mentioned above. At summer camp, it's difficult to have a conversation that goes beyond saying hi, and asking each other how the other one is doing, when the rushed answer is usually, "Good, you?" I'm not very talented at restricting conversations because of a time issue. So man...Heaven, it'll be awesome.
Though we had frigid mornings and nippy evenings, weather in Austin at this time of the year is lovely. I couldn't have asked for more pleasant weather. The daytimes were fairly cool, and the sun shone on God's beautiful people, and beautiful creations. My bed was comfortable, and I didn't have the urge to rip my sheets to shreds at night, like I do at summer camp.
Singing is so uniquely magnificent at camp. Of course there are more singers at summer camp, but I appreciate the fact that we're not on such a strict schedule at winter camp, so we can do things like what we did at our Wednesday morning devotion. We must have sung a total of what, 30 songs? There's nothing like devoting so much time to uplifting one another and praising God through song.
The summertime, for me, is a time of intense relaxation. For the most part, I feel pretty separated from the world, so when I go to camp, it's not as much of a refreshment. Since I'd been in school for a semester, the thought of a wonderful "recharge" sounded way better this time around, than it does during the summer. I now get to go back to school, after camp, and after the new year, with a fresher outlook on everything, and more motivation to be a light in the world, and a seeker of the lost.
I took a few pictures, if you'd like to see. |

-sigh of extreme relief-
I am officially out of school until Monday, December 1. How long have I been anticipating this wonderful feeling? Oh, since the evening of Labor Day, Monday, September 1, the last time I had a break from 7 hour, 20 minute school days, not to mention after school piano lessons, voice lessons, as well as after and before choir rehearsals. This might sound like an empty schedule to most of you, but it took me quite a while to finally get a hold of my seemingly hectic routine. I can safely say I’ve got stability these days.
The weekends of this school year started out with me pretty much never leaving the house or seeing any of you folks, but for the past 3 weekends, I’ve at least gotten to see two of my best friends. (and hopefully, we’ll be blessed to make that 4!) God’s so awesome for sprinkling my life every once in a while with incredible people. Besides the amazing people that I see regularly, obviously!
Grandma, her mother, and I went to see Twilight this afternoon. I was really excited about it, especially since I knew how much everyone enjoys the books. I’m probably one of the very few individuals who saw the movie before reading any book. However, less than an hour after arriving home from the movie date, I sprawled out on my bed and read the first 53 pages of Twilight, a birthday present I received last year, in 1 hour. Quite an accomplishment, what with my turtle-like, unmotivated reading abilities. All 498 pages will probably be read by the end of Thanksgiving break. I’m happy to get into a book series. Really, I never read anything but things like D flats and 6/8 time signatures. This will be good for me.
Speaking of reading music, at the pre-area audition for the Texas All-State Choir, 5 chairs were chosen to advance, as well as 2 alternates. I was blessed to receive 5th chair placement. The next round is the last- the Area audition in Midland. Those who make this last round become members of the TASC. Even if I don’t succeed, I’ve met my goal for this year- pre-area. Though I aim to make it all the way this year, next year, I won’t be settling for anything less than all-state!
*I like having an ipod.
*Winter camp is soon.
*“Zero” Hershey bars are spectactular.
*The Twilight soundtrack rules like the movie, and what I’ve read of the first book thus far. Thank you!
*T9 is better than Abc, I must admit.
*I’ve always preferred spring and summer weather. But this fall business is fascinating me with every passing day. I hate being cold indoors, but absolutely love the cold outside. You call it ambivalence, I call it appreciation. |
