I made it 36 days without Internet. It seemed like an eternity. I still don't have satellite service as my parent's seem to think that is the last thing we need to worry about. Therefore, I now watch 3 channels with rabbit ears and find myself constantly trying to rewind or pause it to no avail.
On a brighter note, I got a new job as an aide in the Life Skills class that I love. Now I get to spend everyday with these wonderful kids that make me smile so hard it hurts. I'm also still working with the 9 year old special needs child a couple of evenings a week and still trying to go to school full time, so life has been VERY busy.
I celebrated my 26th birthday yesterday. I'm terrified of hitting 30 and being in the position I am in (ie. single). So each year that goes by gets harder to celebrate. I did have a great day though. I got sang to about 5 times yesterday by different classes of kids, which I loved. My special ed kids shared a huge cookie cake with me, which was nice. Then I went out to eat w/ my family in Clear Lake. Today, I took the day off of work and went shopping in Rice Village w/ my Dad. I really enjoyed the father/daughter bonding time. My dad bought me a book called The Complete Manual of Things that Might Kill You: A Guide to Self-Diagnosis for Hypochondriacs. It looks hilarious. I can't wait to start reading it.
Yeah, happy birthday! Hope it went well. Sorry about internet and cable. 3 channels, no net...it's like...well...like you'be been timewarped back to your birthyear. Gotta love techno progress.
Happy Birthday. You get used to not having cable. we havent had it for a year and a half now. the only time its really bad is about 3 a.m. test patterns are boring
sorry you were feeling badly the other night and couldn't go with us...your mom was telling me about all your "kids"...glad you like your job. Happy belated birthday!
I've got a few exciting things to blog about, finally.
I got a new job as a caregiver for a 9 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy. It will be a great learning experience, but many of you know that I've worked w/ special needs kids in the past and they are so much fun to be around. I'm excited. Special thanks to Jessica Stevenson for the job :)
I'm going to Nashville for the weekend with my new guy. We are going to meet up with a bunch of old friends from FC and beyond for the annual 'Nines' celebration on 09/09. I've never been to one of their shindigs, nor have I been to Nashville, so I'm REALLY excited.
I have tried a couple of new restaurants lately, which was tough b/c I'm not a very adventurous diner. I had The Melting Pot last weekend, which was delicious, but SO expensive! Then I had Blue Nile Ethiopian food on Friday night. I was scared to try stuff, but once I did, it was SUPERB! I'm a bit of a chicken connoiseur and they had the BEST grilled chicken I've ever had. Everything was very spicy, but awesome. The Ethiopian coffee was delich too! Anyhoo, that's what's happening in my neck of the woods :)
So, I attended my first Kleinwood Singing last night and it was INCREDIBLE! We didn't get there early enough and had to sit in the foyer, which I didn't like b/c I couldn't see the song leader or hear anyone singing, but after the break we squeezed in between some old people and the sound gave me goosebumps! It was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard. I definitely can't wait until next year.
Here's a funny cat/engineer video that I "borrowed" from a new friend. Engineers are funny!
