Another year almost over. It seems hard to believe.
It was a great christmas. We went to TN to see my mom and dad and the whole clan was there. It was SO nice to be altogether. Unfortunately, it takes moving, weddings, graduations and deaths in the family for ALL of us to get together. So it makes you count your times together so precious.
Then we came to Austin to spend the rest of the xmas break with the Clark clan. We got to see Katie and Kyle for the first time since they were married....It's so fun to watch newlyweds. I like to see that look of love when they talk...etc.
It was a very good christmas...family....too much food and memorable gifts. I find that christmas changes as you get older but in a good way. When your young...you get excited about the many gifts that are filled with toys, candy and clothes from your favorite stores...But as you age the personal-hand made gifts can mean just as much (or more) as they did back when you were in your footies (footed PJs). Come on...you wore them at some time in your life. Don't deny it! :)
Hope everyone had a merry xmas and a wonderful new year. May the Lord continue to watch over you and your loved ones and may you continue to surround yourself in His love.
Grandma gave me a picture that she thought was me, but it's you! Jess and Jordan are in it, too. Hopefully I'll have it with me when I see you. Come to the farm for New Years? It's Canton weekend!!
i know what you mean about being young and wanting cool presents. this year i wasn't nearly as...anxious about getting that sort of stuff. it was weird. oh well; i guess i'm growing up :)
How's that for the holidays? Plus...I got my first shot in the buttox. Not fun.
I'm very grateful for God giving man the ability to help speed up the healing process. But really...a shot in the lower regions is really pushing it.
Plus, the doc did not even forwarn me I was getting that kind of shot. The nurse came in and I asked her which arm did she want and she responded with a "Oh no sister" look...."lay on your tummy".
Most shots are better in the butt, though. You don't want your arm to fall off, and you've got more... uh, muscle... down there. *shrugs* Considering the length of the needle that gets used for ALL IM injections, I'd rather have it in my dorsogluteal than deltoid anyway.
what does UTI and URI stand for? i've had pink eye 3 or 4 times and it is not fun. i hope you feel better (which clearly you are 'cause i saw you today).
it is called Angels with Filthy Souls, but it was specifically made up for Home Alone. it is a spoof of a real movie called Angels with Dirty Faces. in Home Alone 2, they made a used a fake sequel called Angels with even Filthier Souls!
Evan's birthday is today....*whispers* go tell him happy birthday:) He wouldn't let me do much since he got a new gun a month ago. So I'm feeling like a bad wife for hardly doing anything for him. I did make him a cake:)
We leave for the "franch" on Wednesday for thanksgiving with my side of the family. I'm looking forward to it...all that gluten free food:) Yum:) I'm making a squash calico casserole. Its very good..with rubbed sage and zucchini, chestnuts, cracker butter crumbs and carrots. Yum Yum..:)
So I have one story to tell about my kids....I know I talk about them alot...sorry.
So i was having extra rehearsals with my honor choir last week because we got invited to sing for the city at their winter festival and xmas parade...cool huh? Plus we got invited to sing at a starbucks and get free hot chocolate! needless to say my kids were screaming for 5 minutes when I told them.:)
Anyway....so I was talking to them and suddenly I noticed two of my sweet girls giggling and smiling and holding their hands up near their upper torso...like I do....and my grandma does. I immediately knew what they were laughing about because My husband jokes about it with me. I stupidly told them my Husband makes funof me for doing my grandma dinorsaur hands...which feeds their laughter more....
So now every time I do it my kids let me know. :) Is it bad to let your students joke around with you? I'm not sure yet..I told them as long as they were not disrespectful about it. We'll see. :)
i think it's fine to let them joke around with you. ultimately, i believe it's the teachers that kids like that they work for the most and the hardest. i know that was the case for me.
that's pretty nice that you get the whole week off.
I don't think it's bad. We all let Mr. Bassett know that he says "Does that make sense" a lot until eventually he quit. I think that you've got the key: as long as they're not being disrespectful. If you get a hint that that's the case...nip it in the bud!
So the last time I posted it had been the beginning of school and now the 1st semester is coming to a close. My how time does fly.
School has been good. I do have a full time aid for all my double classes now....so I thank my aid, admin, prinicipal and God in my prayers every day. I would be burned out already if it wasn't for them.
So thankful.
Speaking of thankful...my 3rd graders have their thankful music program tomorrow and they are totally ready...which i was so scared they wouldn't but we've been ready for a few days now so I'm very proud of myself and them.
Although there has been some bumps and bruises along the way. I actually had a riser collapse right as kids were getting on top of it furing our FIRST rehearsal. One kid was hurt, but more scared than hurt. But he was wheeled out...which was very devastating and scary for me,teachers and the kids. So I've been bouncing up and down ont he risers each time we get on stage...looking like an idiot but hey....it's for my kids:)
Then today during our rehearsal/performance in front of the staff...we took our bow and two boys knocked noggins and ended up crying and being rushed to the nurses office to put ice on.
UGH! It'll be lucky if all 230 3rd graders can live after this program.
That's been my life recently. Needless to say I'm looking forward to thanksgiving break and christmas.
Evan is working hard and has finals soon.
My lovely friend should have her little one soon...pray for her:) Love you Ashlyn:)
Hope all is well. Thanks for visiting:) Sorry I don't have too much to talk about besides work. That's all my life seems to consist of right now....at least that's amusing.
And people think music isn't as physically dangerous as sports! I always remember the "fainting on the back row of the riser" stories. Enough for me to make sure not to lock those knees :)
I'm glad things seem to be going well. Sorry about the few bumps and bruises...I guess those just happen sometimes :) I'd really like to talk to you about your teaching expriences sometime. Would you have time to talk over your xmas break?
I remember doing the Thankgsiving program for the whole school in 2nd grade. Every year at Thanksgiving, the 2nd graders were dressed up like Indians all day!
The way you tell your story is amusing! Glad to hear you are surviving.. seems we never get to talk when I am in town. WOOT for it almost being Thanksgiving!
wasn't as bad as I thought. Although I think my kids think someone stole their music teacher. I wasn't as nice as they remember. HA:) I've been stern the whole week and hopefully it will not hurt me. You can always ease up, right? I feel so bad for my kids they look kinda of scared of me now. Oh well...Fun Mrs. clark will come later.
So glad its labor day weekend. I couldn't sleep in past 7:45. huge disappointment. I've told myself I can't stay on here past 10, because I feel guilty for not working...
"and a possible runaway..." lol! Glad school's going good! Our kids have been in session for 3 weeks already. We have married clients who are both teachers; they came in yesterday and said "we're SO glad it's a long weekend!"
I've had one kid that cries through his lessons often, one messed up violin bow, and one violin that won't stay in tune and the bridge fell down...and I only have five students :) heh. Hope you have a great year! Don't worry about being stern. When I did a violin summer camp this year I learned that I had to be stern or they wouldn't listen. Also, though, I learned that I could have some fun at the right times and they still liked me as a teacher :)
You guys coming to dinner at the farm on Friday? I'll be there tonight and Friday night. Then I'll come back to town Saturday afternoon for dinner at Grandma's.
Hi Jenny. This is Melissa Harbin. I used to attend church with Jay and Becky at Campbell Road, but my husband Dan and I are living in Austin now. Actually, we're only about 15 minutes from Georgetown and I saw Jay not too long ago at our Gospel Meeting. It's good to see you on Pleo:)
I don't know if you remember me, but Evan gave us your New York map after you got back from your honeymoon because that's where Dan and I went for our honeymoon. Tell Evan I said hello!
