...Christmas has past, new years is tonight, and next week everyone begins to show up for OUR WEDDING! It hits me a little bit harder as each day passes just how BIG and PERMINENT of a change this is in our lives. I don't mean in terms of intelectually knowing marrages significants, but comprehending it on a personal level is an other matter entirely.
For those of you how some how still don't know, Melissa and I receaved some furniture from her great uncle in Georga/Georgia (sp?). I only meat him personally for the breif time it took Melissa's cousins, brother, and myself to load up the trailer, but by the way everyone talks about him he sounds like he really is a great man. As a generalization, she has a great family. I barrowed her dad's truck for the trip, her brother was more than eager to help me make the trip with minimal rest stops, her cousins in alabama helped to load everyhting up, and her aunt and uncle housed and fed/fead(???)...let us eat with them. I don't think there is any way this trip would have been possible with out so many people helping out on such short notice. SHe has a really great family. THANK YOU EVERY ONE!!! :)
Ok, I'd probably type more but I'm running short on time and my typing is to slow, so I'll check back in a couple of months. :)
Thats awesome that you got some furniture:) I am getting excited about coming up and seeing you guys it has been too long:) Have you or melissa received ambers letter?
To every one that ma have heard me describe Houston weather as "basicly the same as Tampa's", I must amend that statement. This past summer was comparable to tipical Florida summers, but last night was NOT tipical for ANY season in Florida. It snowed! Not enough to close schools down or make snow angles, but enough to cause panic on the roads. I'm very glad I don't have to be on the road till my 11:00 o'clock class today. So, a more accurate description of Houston weather might be..."It's mostly like florida weather, except when it gets cold." ;)
Your mom and I were at McGregor Smith to help out with a Scout training this last weekend. I chose to sleep in a tent instead of the heated cabins because I wanted to stay near the kitchen and the cabins are 4 miles away. (No, not for snacking, I'm the Quartermaster) Your mother chose to stay in the tent because of earlier experiences in the cabin which I'm sure you remember) Anyway, the next morning after getting breakfast prepared we loaded everything into a Gator (the motorized cart not the reptile) to take to the Admin building for serving. I took a towel to wipe the condensation from the seats and my assistant looked at me and asked what is that for. I explained and as I wiped the seats he just laughed. There was condensation, but it was frozen. It got down to 29 degrees overnight. Your mom survived in good shape, no frost bite.
Yes that's right. Today was all about moving...sort of. Last night Melissa and I loaded all of the gifts she received at the shower into my jeep plus a few house keeping item she bought earlier that day. This morning I got up at seven and went straight to our new apartment and unloaded my jeep. I then went to her house where her dad and I loaded a book shelf into his truck. We then picked up a truck that was loaned us for the day and met our help at her,(or was that ours too? She did give me a key for it. Well, it's a moot point now.) public storage unit and loaded our generously donated furniture into our collective vehicles and unloaded it all into our third story apartment. That all in all took an hour at the MOST. We had lots of help from our Aleif brothers.
Once that was done and we had eaten some lunch a few of us went to help Alex move into his brand new, and very nice, town home. With three pick up trucks and six able bodies loading and unloading we made pretty quick work of that as well. All in all the actual moving was done between 10:00am and 4:00pm. After words Melissa and I went to pick up a few odds and ends that she had discovered were of immediate importance for the apartment. After words we dropped off the truck and I took her home. I all that moving I don't think a single thing has been taken out of the bed room I am currently staying in. I will be doing that over the next few days and most likely actually living in our new apartment with in the week. I think I will be very comfortable, but it will be an adjustment. The generosity of the family I have been staying with is enough to spoil anyone. They have been an amazing bless that I hope to imitate in the near future. Now I just have to keep that apartment clean so that Melissa doesn't move into a disaster zone after our wedding. ;) (I don't think that will be a problem.)
THANKS TO ALL YOU GUYS WHO HELPED US. IT MAKE TODAY A REALLY GREAT DAY!
Glad everything went so well. Just one question. Did you mean "afterwards" when you wrote "after words"? Either would work in the sentences but the latter sounds like there is more to the story.
Ithink this is the first move I haven't been a part of in some way. I am so happy for you and Melissa. You better keep it clean. You know you were taught well. You were the best kitchen cleaner in the family. I am proud of you.
My birthday was this past Saturday. I wasn't really expecting anything really, but I was very pleasantly surprised by people's thoughtfulness. My family sent me a couple of cards and sang to me over the phone, which means a lot to me, the family that I'm staying with gave my a gift card to a bookstore (which has now taken the form of a very cool Star Wars book), and Melissa and her family through me a quick little birthday celebration before taking me to a rockets game. I can confidently say that this has been the best birthday in a very long time. Thank you everyone for your thoughtfulness.
In a much less cheery note I think I utterly and completely bombed my math test today. When I say "think" I do not mean that I am unsure about several of my answers. I mean I am unsure about the few questions I did not blindly guess on. :( As a silver lining, NO BODY finished that test on time. If I had to find the limit of the collective confidence in that class room today, I would say without a doubt it was "-Infinity".
I know that I have more to say...I just can't remember what. I'm out of time anyways I suppose. Happy election day! I hope;)
I feel so insulted that you won't even listen to my amazing rendition of happy birthday on your phone so don't even bother calling me back! Unless of course you're interested in selling/eating chocolate!
