What lovely young ladies! Katie's hair is getting long again. That was fast!
Mom loved her Birthday video. She and Dad shared it with us last night. Super cute! Sean and think Hannah got some of her moves from High School musical! ;o) Your girls truly are special blessings! Miss ya'll!
I keep going into my room to upload my pics and then I get side-tracked. They turned out great for a first time on everything. I had never made them before so I was just hoping that they would work.
It's been a while since I've updated... and I need a break from work... ;o)
My classes have finally wrapped up for the semester so I finally have time do things for myself again. :o) I have 3 course I'll be taking in the Spring but only one of them will actually be an actual "class." I'll be doing my Internship (which my job counts for already) and an independent study for my technology credit. I'll be busy, but I won't have the homework I had this semester.
Speaking of my technology project, I've decided to have my students create math DVD's and podcasts. I'm really excited to see how this will turn out. Of course, this means that I have to actually learn how to make DVD's and podcasts so that I can teach them. So the other day, I set up my laptop so that Hannah and Katie could record themselves. They had the best time singing and performing for the camera! When they were finished, I took all of their video and made this cute little DVD with everything they recorded. Honestly, I cannot believe how easy it is to make a professional looking DVD.... and all I needed was my laptop which does everything. My parents are planning to come out here for the holiday's and they're traveling light.... I'm thinking DVD's for xmas. ;o)
I didn't realize you had two posts. I didn't see the one below. Somehow your name didn't light up on my screen before, but it was lit today. If that made any sense.
The internship sounds like fun! So does making a math dvd and doing podcasts! It's so neat to see you dabble in just about everything! Math isn't just paper, pencil, and teacher anymore, it's a whole new world!
I have the girls gifts ready to send to them, I just need to get it to the post office. I'll email you once I do, that way you know their coming!
How did your dilemma turn out with the teacher and the lesson plan that wasn't going to turn out? Is this already over?
I have a 3 part homework assignment due on Dec 6 that I have been dreading. We're supposed to choose a teacher that we work with to do a "coaching" session and we have to video tape ourselves doing it. (This may come as a bit of a surprise, but I HATE to be video taped). So, I found a teacher who was willing to help me with my assignment and we taped the pre-conference today.
Going into the pre-conference, I really didn't know what to expect. I did some research ahead of time and found out where he would be in his math pacing guide. I also pulled some math literature books for him to look at over the weekend so that he would have some ideas for a lesson he'd like to teach. Well, it turns out he didn't prepare for our meeting so we had to make everything up as we went along. We came up with a lesson plan, which at the time I thought was good... but now, I'm not so sure. After giving the lesson some thought, I don't think the lesson is going to work out the way we planned it. So now I have this dilemma.... should I try to convince him to change it or should I let him find out for himself why it won't work? The whole idea behind "coaching" is for the coach to help teachers improve themselves professionally, not to turn the teacher into a mini version of them self. So, if I tell him that we need to change the lesson... will I be helping him improve or forcing him to teach how I would teach? What if I don't tell him and I allow the lesson to flop (on video)... what does that say about me as a coach? I'm so confused.... Any advice?
Having been in this situation recently with an intern, I think you should let him do it as you planned together. Maybe give him a heads up that you are concerned about a couple things beforehand and describe how they might could be handled during the lesson. You can give advice and help, but ultimately the teacher has to buy into the idea and style of teaching. This way you wouldn't be just letting him flop, but you also wouldn't be turning him into miniyou. Just my 2cents.
This is one of my new favorite songs from this year's event. Some of you may remember Joel Sloan... that's him leading this song. You can find some other video clips here
Hmmm...I couldn't get any sound. I really need to try and make it to 1k Voices sometime, it's not that far away, but we had our gospel meeting last weekend.
I know how you feel. I was in that situation until Taylor was 2 1/2. I consider myself blessed to be able to stay home now, but since I've been on both sides of the fence I still cringe when I hear someone make blanket statements like that about working mothers.
Hey! I saw pics of Shawn and Scott on the 1KV group we know them!!! They aren't on pleo, are they? I haven't been in touch with them in a long time (though we have gotten updates here and there through my brother and Bill. Do you have contact info for them?
We really want to come sometime...and are hoping to go to Mountain Voices since it's so close to us. :-)
