Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might, for there is no work, neither device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

A good way to start a New Year 12-31-08 11:18pm EST
CHRISTIAN, AWAKE
(Tune: Farther Along)

When we are tried, yes, sometimes we stumble,
But we must trust in our God above.
No hole’s so deep that he cannot lift us,
No night so dark we can’t find His love.

Christian, awake and serve your Savior.
Christian, awake, the time does fly.
Now is the time that we must live for Him,
If we’re to live with Him by and by.

spicegirl255Carrot cake is my favorite, as long as it has cream cheese frosting. The scripture down there was my Mother's favorite. Hope you enjoyed the party!
spicegirl255Great song!!!
spicegirl255Feel free to e-mail me any time!
w3jlI love the words to your song. They make us think what we can do in 2009 to be ready to spend time with the Lord by and by. BUT also what we can do on earth to help others see God's love for them. Thanks!
singforjoyThe time certainly does fly. Now if only the troubles would fly, as well.
w3jlI'll let you know, thanks.
scottishceliIf you're talking about the 2 sermons I can send you CDs if you'll email me your name and address. Send to ceecee1946@aol.com OK?

debnraythanks for joining us. We had great time last night we need to do it again
aletaHmmm. Path of new opportunities> That includes many things I have in mind as well as the ones I don't. And when the ones I don't surprise me, I sure pray I'm ready to take them on. That's my main resolve this year, is to try to RECOGNIZE opportunities when the Lord lays them out there.
cdillman23Happy New Year! Great song!

Everytime I read over the Proverbs I notice "new" ones 12-26-08 02:40pm EST
The righteous has a refuge in his death. Proverbs 14:32b

Wisdom rests quietly in the heart of him who has understanding,
But what is in the heart of fools is made known. Proverbs 14:33

Harsh correction is for him who forsakes the way,
And he who hates reproof will die. Proverbs 15:10

A scoffer does not love one who reproves him,
Nor will he go to the wise. Proverbs 15:12

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the just,
Both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord. Prov. 17:15

A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire. Proverbs 18:1a

A fool has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart. Proverbs 18:2

The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness,
But who can bear a broken spirit? Proverbs 18:14

The first one to plead his cause seems right
Until his neighbor comes and examines him. Proverbs 18:17

Casting lots causes contentions to cease,
And keeps the mighty apart. Proverbs 18:18

The poor man uses entreaties,
But the rich answers roughly. Proverbs 18:23

Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers,
But a prudent wife is from the Lord. Proverbs 19:14

Listen to counsel and receive instruction,
That you may be wise in your latter days. Proverbs 19:20

There are many plans in a man’s heart,
Nevertheless, the Lord’s counsel – that will stand. Prov. 19:21

What is desired in a man is kindness. Proverbs 19: 22a

Cease listening to instruction, my son,
And you will stray from the words of knowledge. Proverbs 19: 27

Counsel in the heart of a man is like deep water,
But a man of understanding will draw it out. Proverbs 20:5

Most men will proclaim each his own goodness. Proverbs 20:6

A man’s steps are of the Lord.
How then can a man understand his own way? Proverbs 20: 24

A wise king sifts out the wicked
and brings the threshing wheel over them. Proverbs 20:26

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord,
Searching all the inner depths of his heart. Proverbs 20:27

Blows that hurt cleanse away evil. Proverbs 20:30
sissy12i havent had a chance to look through them yet!
aletaNo matter what's going on in our lives, Proverbs will "speak" to us about it. It never gets old, does it?
sarahtidwellThe Proverbs are just as applicable today as the were in bible times.
hartwebbThanks.
themotherI've been intrigued to read some of the proverbs in the new English Standard Version. Some of them sounds almost entirely different!
aletaThank you.
cdillman23good post!
holly_annI LOVE proverbs! I got a book "30 days through Psalms and Proverbs" that has a little reading from each everyday. It's great!
grannyI too love the proverbs - made my boys memorize a lot of them -- and told just recently how useful they continue to be in their lives. Nice, that. Mary Jo, right now we are in Florence KY and only leave out Saturday morning. We are scheduled to return Monday morning (5th) coming back on I75 to Florence before we continue our journey eastward. Perhaps you would be free on Monday? Let me know and we can make a similar arrangement?

Your favorite proverb? 12-23-08 08:44am EST
My class and I have been studying Proverbs for some time now. We have had so many good discussions and I have learned so much in preparing for class. For my last class I hope I can impress upon them that for any situation in life there is a proverb that will help. I asked my students to choose a favorite proverb. Two have responded so far. A third grader immediately chose: " A soft answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger." (15:1) and a kindergartener, after class Sunday, quietly pointed out her choice: "A wise man fears and departs from evil."

Personally, I could never choose only one. Every week I read over the book and every week a different one became my favorite. My favorite today is this: "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life." (13:12) It reminds me of some of the stories I have heard on here.

So do you have one you would like to share?
holly_annThat's fantastic that such young kids are grasping proverbs so well! What a wonderful study. My favorite will always be 27:14: "He who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, It will be reckoned a curse to him." :)
tucksmomLooking forward to more time to know you better.
butterflythat is cool that the kids even that young are choosing theirs:-) I'm like you where I don't know if I really have a fave:-)
bookbug87my favorite is the one I memorized first: train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
bookbug87Church is about worshiping God. And sometimes, worshiping God is about having fun. And sometimes, it's also about trying to pull in the nonbelievers by letting them know how much fun it can be in the freedom of Christ. And thus, the play.

anyone know any simple gluten-free recipes for any form of bread? 12-16-08 12:47pm EST
singforjoyI can look some up for you. What kind of bread? White, wheat, french, orange? Yep, gluten free orange bread is out there. :) Also, do you have a bread machine?
singforjoyWell, there are tons of different options. Unfortunately, because we're taking out the gluten, none of these recipes are exactly "simple". Tell me what you think of these. If they're too much, I'll keep looking.
