Am I The Only One? 01-06-09 10:05pm EST
I channel surfed and saw the Biggest Loser was on. I started watching AND then the eating began! Ugh. How depressing is that. These people are working their hind ends off and I run as far as the fridge! Did I say Ugh yet!!! Ugh, Ugh, Ugh...
doesanamedescribewhat did you think of that twist.. crazy huh? I love biggest loser.... i was eating reese while watching... hehe :)
justgLOL...I feel ya! Between 8 and 11...I could eat the refrigerator AND the freezer!
tommyswifeI have been watching the Best Life series that Oprah has had on. It has been really inspiring. I am interested to see what the "spirtual" advisors have on today! :) I love Dr. Oz, he makes a lot of sense to me.
tommyswifeI hate the late night cravings!
tryphenaI hate it when I stuff my face anytime, but how ironic to do it while watching The Biggest Loser!
sprmomCome on over, Kevin & I will help you, I am -6 pounds as of this morning! Kevin has lost alot more, brat!
sprmomyep, I buy Dreamfields pasta, only 5 carbs per serving, instead of 45 of reg pasta. I eat alot of meat, cheese, sunflower seeds (as a snack)
bekkasounds like fun.....it's good to find fun things to do during the winter...as we are all stuck in doors. we are always looking for things to do here, once a mounth we have a bible study, we have a movie night, we have a game night, of course not everyone will come. do let me know how the party turns out. something is falling from the sky here, just not sure what it i yet.
dorothy129I came here from Sarah's blog. I just wantedt to let you know you are not the only ones without Wii. We don't have one either. Our girls are college age the one that is ttill at home goes to my sisters to play Wii. I just don't want you to feel you are alone. :0)
bestillditto! We rented one for $20 from Family Video for 2 nights (3 evenings) over the holidays to play with our sons while they were home and again for our New Year's Eve party.
whipsmileI am actually a fan of that show. I do NOT like reality TV, but that one seems worth while. Two hours per episode is too long though.
sprmomI have lost 2.75 inches as well as the 6 pounds since Dec 11, as of today, it was my measurement day at curves!!! come and join me at curves, you will love it!
flyonthewallThe older I get, the more swirling my brain does. I don't expect it will get any better or go away. I'll just deal with it :)

The first First Day of The Week in 2009 is here... 01-04-09 07:20am EST
...and in Bible Study this morning we will STILL be discussing the covering. I wish we could step back and STUDY 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 for the ENTIRE message/point Our Father has for us. That is how I tried to look at it last evening while studying. I will pray one more time for the best outcome...
****************

The day went well. Bible study class was ok. No blood drawn or knock-down drag-outs. :·)
Some of my conclusions (at this point)...
* 1Cor 11:2-16 - the bulk of this passage is not about 'the covering'
* One main topic - hierarchy - the head of Christ is God, the head of man is Christ, the head of the woman is the man
* Another topic - praying/prophesying
* The setting is not the assembly, at least not exclusively
* Whatever all the details of the praying/prophesying were, both men and women did it
* Whenever the praying/prophesying was done the man was to not be covered and the woman was to be covered
* Said covering brought authority to the woman
* Whatever the contention/question was that was brought to Paul was publicly known by the Corinthian brethren
* The Corinthian brethren lived at the time when prophesying was still 'in use'
* Today prophesy is not 'in use'
* Today I do not publicly lead in praying/prophesying so I need no authority for something I am not expected to do

mamahastingsAt least you are studying it. Up to this point it has seemed like an "off limits" topic in the places we have worshiped. I would love to study it. The only place I have had a fruitful, open discussion about it has been on here.
pookyI'm one to think that topic is best studied independently or with a small group. The larger the group, the more likely it is that SOMEONE is going to get their feelings hurt or be misunderstood. But that's just my opinion.
71lespaulcustomBut why would women have spiritual gifts?! That would imply that they would use them, and then be "leading" or "having authority"!
mamahastingstrue
mamahastingsHope your day was at least as encouraging as it was frustrating :)
justgit's one of those topics...never ending, never resolved...always openended. ***sigh***
justgi hope your day was a good one.
deusvitaeWe're having a similar study on Friday.
hastingsyou need to just ask your husband what you should do........:)
nycamiI like your thoughts. I pretty much have come to the same conclusions. We had a GREAT visit with Kelly yesterday!!!!
71lespaulcustomWhile I am sure he is a fine man, I do not care for his editing, arrangements, song-writing style nor song-leader training. Yes, I feel your pain.
sprmompraying for you!!! I know the frustration! That has ending for us, we are being edified in a way we have never been before. We are growing spiritually alot since Nov!! We would love to worship with you again!! come on over!
kellyshe seems like a wise woman ;) i'll call you on the way to pick up my little one. love ya!
auntjennywrenAww! Thanks - you're a sweetie! We love you too!
mamahastingsWere the women in the Bible leading in public prayer? I am not disagreeing with anything, I really am just asking. I took the passage to mean at anytime they were praying.
doesanamedescribeNo, I dont think that he does. His gmail account is the best way to reach him. :)
deusvitaeAre you saying that women do not participate in corporate prayers?
deusvitaeIs there a distinction between leading a prayer and participating it? Are both not considered "praying"?
deusvitaeUnderstood; but 1 Corinthians 11 speaks of both actions, not just the one.
justg***sigh***
red_captain_jessiYes it will! I'm very excited!! Things are falling into place
tryphenaOK, I'll bite. I think we are conflicted about the role of women in the church and about usurping man's authority (and therefore, God's).

For me personally, I *rarely* speak in Bible studies (classroom or home situations), but it depends more on the teacher's expectations and sometimes on my fellow students' beliefs. If I know speaking will offend, I definitely abstain from it. If the teacher expects me to respond to his question, I should do so humbly and without an air of authority.

If I examine my comments before I say them, I usually find that I didn't have anything beneficial to add to the discussion. If I have something really important, I talk to the teacher one-on-one afterwards and let him determine whether it needs to be shared.

In 1 Corinthians 11:15, does the word "covering" mean the same thing as it does in earlier verses? Can the covering be the hair, or must it be an artificial covering?

I guess my main concern with this whole concept of an artificial head covering is that it is so reminescent of the physical law of Moses. Dwelling on it seems to undermine the spirit of the new law. We are instructed to clothe ourselves with many things, none of which are physical (not that we aren't to wear clothes...;-D)--but the New Testament strongly emphasizes the spiritual over the physical.

I do not condemn women who wear a head covering, because the ones I know appear to have their hearts in the right place. Nor do I condemn women who choose to cover themselves with their hair. (Of course, then you get into "how long is long enough"...) I tend to look down upon the women who lead from the pews, though, whether in assembly, class, small group discussions, etc.

Attitude is SO important! Action will follow.

Am I rambling, or does this make any sense?
deusvitaeThe need to "pray without ceasing" does not really involve perpetual pray as much as being in prayer often.

As to concerns about physicality and the law of Moses, do you have the concern that people being immersed in water is emphasizing the physical over the spiritual, or actually eating bread and drinking fruit of the vine hindering our spiritual observance of the Lord's Supper?

Baptism is a physical act symbolizing death and resurrection, an appeal for cleansing. The Lord's Supper is a ritual meal designed to evoke the body and blood of Jesus Christ on our behalf. The covering is designed to be a sign of authority, that a woman recognizes her place in the divine hierarchy, on account of the angels.

I don't see the discontinuity between the first two and the last.
tryphenaAnd THAT (your comment) is perfectly funny!
justgi get it...there is a reason i keep it frothy and post lite!

If You Need One More Goodie To Make... 12-18-08 03:26pm EST
I have not tried these but a lady in the checkout line today was buying the ingredients for these Pretzel Turtles. She raved about them. I have the ingredients on my shopping list. I think I can handle these!

Pretzel Turtles

20 square waffle or round pretzels
20 Dove Chocolates w/Caramel (can use Rolos)
20 pecan halves

Preheat oven to 300º F (150 degrees C).
Arrange the pretzels in a single layer on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
Place one Chocolate w/Caramel on each pretzel.
Place one pecan on top of candy.
Bake for 4 minutes.
While the candy is warm, press the pecan half squishing the candy into the pretzel.
Cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
Can drizzle with melted white chocolate to pretty them up.
flyonthewallYummmmmyyy.
red_captain_jessiwow, those sound familiar, I made those at ambers shower in akron.. also it's good with a m&m instead of a pecan.. sweet and salty
kellycan use rolos but why when the first word reads 'DOVE' chocolates. ummm.... dove
tommyswifeA lady at my mom's group had made these for tonight's meeting! They were good and the pretzel rolo thing is so easy!
cmayMmmmm!! Sounds good!
mockinbirdsomeone made them yesterday and brought them to our annual Mega Food Day at school. They are very good. I think I will try them too now that I see how easy it will be. Thanks:)

If You Want Xmas Goodies... 12-17-08 11:39am EST
you know to not come to my house. :·) Instead go to her house! She has frosted sugar cookies, dipped pretzels, peanut butter something cookies, french waffle cookies...hopefully she is laughing by now- I've forgotten the names of 1/2 of the cookies she described for me...peanut butter popcorn, there were others and today she is making buckeyes. If you hurry you can get them while they are fresh. Just wanted to brag on my sister! She is such a busy bee. And if you visit you can see all the snowmen in her home. As her boys say 'it looks like the house pucked snowmen'- or something close to that!
If you visit Stacey I am sure she could supply you with a goodie or two also!!
:·)

As for me - on Xmas Day I will supply a Prime Rib dinner with all the fixings...Turkey breast & gravy, Mashed potatoes, Sweet potatoes, Corn, Green Beans, Stuffing, Cranberry sauce, Deviled Eggs, Salmon & Lime Dip w/ Crudités, Fruit salad...
And Peanut Butter Fudge and White Chocolate Popcorn are still on my radar and I have not given up hope of a type of cookie or two...

doesanamedescribethanks for your thoughts. I never knew that... :)
flyonthewallI like Clay Aiken, too, and I know what you mean about not making a "total" transformation. I suspected he was guy, but I was really disappointed to learn that he truly is. Still, he has a beautiful voice, just like "Archie." ;)

kellyyou (i'm not known for my spelling)

It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year! 12-16-08 01:10pm EST
The 'other' mood has lifted and I sent Ebenezer Scrooge packing. Usually all I need is some inspiration and a couple great gift ideas and I'm 'off to the races'. Ordered some fun stuff online. Am getting ready to head out the door to do some 'brick and mortar' shopping. Saw a post here in PleoLand that stated nicely how we have liberty from our Father in Heaven to celebrate christmas and not feel bad about it. Mark has always said Romans 14 gives us the liberty to enjoy the day. All those that try to rain on my parade will have to rain somewhere else. That said I will not be able to have the christmas extravaganza I wanted to have but there is always next year and plenty of other days to have a wingding between now and then.
**********
Please say a prayer for Mark. His new knee is making a 'noise' and it is causing him a bit of angst. The doctor may not return his call until 3pm.
tryphenaOh, I sure hope everything's OK with his knee!!

Christmas: I just wish so many of the people who celebrate Christ's birth would realize the real significance of it and follow Him. I also wish it wasn't so commercialized. I'm pretty much a Scrooge!
mamahastingsI was thinking that we need to really appreciate that in this crazy country, for now, we are still allowed to have a holiday that involves our Savior.
71lespaulcustom^^ Amen! ^^
flyonthewallI hope nothing is wrong. My knee pops a lot. Is that the noise he's hearing?
tommyswifeEnjoy your parade! Hope Mark is better real soon!
bekkaHope Mark feels better soon. I say enjoy your Holiday!
toad8029If you just want to make food and play games... I'll eat the food and play the games. :) There is no joke that comes to mind about me and a mule! :) Vacation was great but too short.
justgFor sure..I am a float in your parade. No rain coming from my cloud. Now...if it weren't 80 degrees outside.
mockinbirdCarry an umbrella and go for it!!!!
cmayYay!! Christmas!! I will pray that Mark's knee is OK, maybe the noise is normal.
justgI'm thinking there shouldn't be noise. Oy!
curlieI agree with Stacey.
71lespaulcustomI have been practicing the "If you can't say anything nice..." philosophy lately.
