An epistle was addressed to me.
And one of mine knows royalty.
Joseph knows me, and him I know,
I've seen him up, I've seen him low.
To a special word, I've got a connection,
And to a number odd, I'm also tied.
Give it some study and reflection
And post when I'm identified.
Answer:
The church at Antioch (of Syria)
An epistle was addressed to me.
[to ANTIOCH / Ac.15.23ff]
And one of mine knows royalty.
[MANAEN/ Acts 13.1]
Joseph knows me, and him I know,
[Joseph = Barnabas, Ac.4.36;
& see his work at Antioch in 11.22ff, etc.]
I've seen him up, I've seen him low.
[Up, as in Ac.11.24, etc.;
but Antioch is also where Barnabas was
carried away with the hypocrisy in Gal.2]
To a special word, I've got a connection,
[disciples were first called Christians there Ac.11.26]
And to a number odd, I'm also tied.(v.3,v.40,v.23)
[Three: Antioch is where each of the
3 missionary journeys originated from]

a.) All of the verse references (except the "seen him low" reference) are from a single book of the NT.
b.) The number clue relates to some particular events which all originated from the answer to the riddle. When we speak of these, we often designate them by their (odd, not even) number. |

And to a number odd, I'm also tied.(v.3,v.40,v.23) _ _ _ _ e M._.
Give it some study and reflection
And post when I'm identified.
Don't post the answer,
just post a "got it."
If you'd like a clue,
I'll be happy to spot it.
