Well, for yesterday/today at least. We got our first snow the season this year - the first time I can remember that happening before Christmas is quite a while. It looked really pretty last night. Not so much this morning when it had all turned into ice. Still, I did take a nice picture of the snow in my neighbor's front yard, since there was better light there.
I also got a new t-shirt yesterday and it's definitely a new favorite (from xkcd.com).
I got an early Christmas present the other day - a new iPhone 3G from my mom. So far, I really like it. It's pretty fun play around with and I, unfortunately, tend to spend a lot of time playing around. Still, one thing I wasn't expecting to really like was the camera feature. My old phone's camera was horrible, so I never used. Mostly I use my Canon Rebel XTi DSLR to take pictures and gave my old point-and-shoot to Jac's mom. I've kind of missed having a normal size camera a few times since (not much, but some), so I took a few pics with my new phone to try it out. The results are actually pretty good:
Not awesome, or anywhere near as good as my DSLR, but functional, at least. Yay for new grown up toys.
I feel like I never got to write on here anymore. I'm currently trying to finish up three different projects so I can write papers and then my dissertation so I can graduate. I'm pretty close to getting to a publishable point on the DNA shuffling/FosA/X evolution project. We have some really interesting mutants and all I need now is the kinetics defining them. It should be a pretty good, if short, paper. I'm also, hopefully, very close to finishing up the experiments that I need to be able to publish my HTS assay, as well as getting a crystal structure of one of the inhibitors I've found bound to my enzyme. I feel like it's an obstacle course and I'm at the last wall with the rope you have to climb to before getting to the finish line. I feel oh so close, but frustratingly far away, too. I've started a job search, too, talking to a professor here at Vandy in the Pharmacology Dept. It's been pretty crazy times - not much free time or fun, just work. Here's hoping for a good finish. Time to flip the switch...
