Hi
I know this is a long update, my own body has delayed my being able to sit and type so I didn't get these out as they came in. Please know that if you have a need we are here for you and if you want me to send out prayer request, I will do that for you. Prayer is such an awesome blessing from our Father, and we totally depend on Him.
Holly Griffin: had her bone marrow test completed on Mon. Grandpa went with her and was able to be with her and lend a hand to hold during the proceedure. He is one of the most supportive, gentle men during difficult, painful, times. I told her I felt more comforted knowing he was with here even more than Chuck!!! HeeHee! I think Chuck finds comfort in his dad being there when he can't. I've been taking the girls whenever Holly has an appointment or a day of much needed rest. ("It's a difficult job, but someone has to do it!!!" You all know I love our girls!) She was to have the lung scan early that morning, but not one tech showed up to do the job.
The next day, she had to pre-register for her out patient proceedure to implant the port in the chest wall, that will be used for all Chemo and blood drawn. The girls and I went with them, they dropped us off at the mall where we had a small lunch and then I let the girls just run and play around the enclosed, Christimas scene they had put up. Mickey & his friends were a big hit! We continued to play while mom & grandpa ate after mom's paper work was complete! The girls fell asleep on the way home so we dropped mom off at home and grandma went to the store and finished my list of needs for Holly's birthday party later that night! So we really enjoyed our day, yes you guessed it grandma was drained by the bed time hour!!! But watching Presley help grandma prepare for her mommy's party and how excited she was to sing happy birthday! And seeing Holly being pampered by her aunts, uncles & cousins that helped celebrate "Holly", Well let's just say that it was wonderful.
On Wed. morning the no show staff showed for a 75 minute Lung scan for Holly. She had Grandpa drop her off at home to rest. She will have the surgery to implant the port on Mon. Jan. 5th. Then soon after her first chemo will follow, not scheduled for that as of yet. There are so many things that one must go through before the chemo begins, as those of you who have gone through this know all to well. And please let me encourage you to drop Holly a note if you had something that helped you during cancer. We don't want her to suffer any more than she has to. So all knowledge is so encouraged!
It's amazing how much she has been doing right after a surgery like she had. Each have slowed her down and fatigued her, but her will is strong and she is resolved to beat this cancer with a positive attitude! Honestly that is a big portion of the battle that will be won. They give her almost 100% cure rate which we are so extremely thankful for, but we know the chemo & the radiation will taxi her health and strength. But are ready to help her in any way that we can. Please continue to pray for Holly, Chuck, Presley & Avery & the rest of us who love and support her.
Elaine Ropp: is doing so well, considering her condition! That ever sweet smile, and concern for others has not escaped her loving nature! Those hugs are even more precious as they once were to all. Sun. afternoon I watched her comfort one of her grandson's and her simple touch just melted away the tears from his eyes! I know it touched Tyler's heart to see his mom with his youngest son Jude! Her kidney still is a problem, but they are dealing with it as she continues to get her maintenance chemo drugs to hold this cancer from growth. She & Doug are in Kansas City off and on. Doug continues to work in the KC area. He is still in so much pain himself with his neck. The strength shown by them can only come from God. I recently spoke with Elaine's brother and he told me that every niece Elaine had looked up to her and wanted to be like her. Elaine is quiet but, her living example shouts to all. I thank God that there are Christians like Elaine and encourage all Christians to grow and never be satisfied, to hunger to be more Christ like in their walk here on this earth.
Barbara & Mack Baughn: Mack does such an incredible job updating us on Barbara so I'm posting his email update. But I do want to tell you that this couple is incredible! Mack resigned as an elder at Memorial Drive in Tulsa to focus on their physical needs. Mack was a strong elder and I'm sure from time to time he is called upon for wisdom. It takes so much out of a man especially to care for the needs of his wife. And Barbara is so blessed to have Mack help and encourage her she walks the path of healing, it is a journey that takes so much strength and effort. God is so richly blessing her with the strength to endure what she must and giving Mack strength to help her each step of the way. I have a Mack (hubby) of my own and know how priceless his love and support is to to me and I'm sure Barbara feels the same way. I also know this journey of healing has been a very long road for Barbara & Mack, God has blessed them with the strength they need. The care and concern that the two of these people have had for us is just incredible, knowing they are going through so much themselves, they take time for our family. Thank you Mack & Barbara you are treasured by so many.
UPDATE ON BARB'S HEALTHâ

I realize that it has been over a month since the latest update. There haven't been any significant changes other than Barbara is getting stronger and her stamina is getting better with each passing day. She is able to walk, with the aide of her walker, about 400 feet without stopping. She has also taken a few steps without her walker while holding my hand. She is not really stable doing this yet, but it is another baby step on the road to normal. We really appreciate all your concern and prayers on her behalf. Without the prayers, we would not have been able to make it.Please continue to pray for both of us. Also please pray for Barb's dad, Mr. Fred Paxton. He is in the rehab wing of St. Elizabeth's Place in Jonesboro, Arkansas. With much love to all,Barbara & Mack
Rita & Ken Burns: Rita continues to deal with her B-cell Lukemia, which is unlike the Lukemia that most of you know about. It grows very slowly and the treatment is to watch it's growth. To look at Rita or Ken you would know nothing is wrong! That ever inviting smile can be seen going out to many from across the room. And when we are even with the hint of a cold or virus we stay away! So I get lots of those across the room smiles!! But when I know I'm fine I love those hugs! Ken suffers with a bad back now and has been going through some testing for his heart. Regardless of what they are going through they are there to sit with the family of those having surgery or taking food to those who need it. Rita made a meal for our kids when Holly had her surgery, Holly began to eat and she told Chuck, "This is sooo good we have to have it again tonight and have your dad come over!" That is a great compliment! And I know Rita has her down times, but still has other's in her focus of concern. Please keep these two dear strong Chrsitians in your prayers!
Buford & Lorinda Orear: Bufford continues to recover from his open heart surgery, which thank God is going so well. He is waiting for back surgery so please keep him in your prayers that he will be healthy for that and gain relief of pain. Lorinda has constant pain in her hips and I think still her neck. She is so strong and has done a great job raising her kids and being an example to her grandchildren. It's difficult to live with constant pain, but she does it and encourages others who have needs. God gives so much strength to each of them and we are so blessed to serve such an awesome God! "I say that alot, because I'm so excited He is our God"
Update #38 from Stacy King - December 8, 2008
Hey to all! Sorry it's been a little while since my last update. I went for chemo last week (a huge thank you to Gina Kaufman for taking me). We went up on Monday and did my lab work so that my Dr. would have the results when he saw me on Tuesday. My Ca-125 dropped from 69 to 62 which wasn't earth-shattering but a drop nonetheless. Since there was a drop, he decided to go ahead and do another treatment of the drugs I've been getting. Due to the fact that I had a Neulasta shot after my last round of chemo ( I had a low white cell count after the last round)and that count was up to 7 so I was able to have 100% of my treatment. I guess that's why this treatment really knocked me for a loop...I hope it's doing the same to my cancer! I am scheduled to go back on Tuesday...barely get to feeling better and it's time to go again! I guess after this round he will evaluate what's next. He is still saying that surgery is my best option along with the chemo. We're a little concerned about the surgery because I am at such a higher risk of problems after having the P32 radiation treatment that I had a few years ago. I guess we'll wait and see what's next.
We're hoping to go to Indy to have Christmas with my family this coming weekend and then on to Texas on December 21st to be with Greg's family for about 10 days. I guess the only thing that would change these plans would be a change in the Dr.'s plans for me. It's been an emotional roller coaster for the past few weeks and we're just trying to put one foot in front of the other, one day at a time. We hope all of you have a wonderful, and safe holiday season with your families. So many to remember in your prayers!
thanks for your love, support, and prayers! We appreciate them more than words can say!
love,
greg, stacy, shelby, and mitchell
Kelsey Harris: 15 yr. old with brain tumor:
Brethren and friends,
Today was another difficult day. Kelsey had her MRI first thing this morning. We saw the doctor around 11:00am, and we were disappointed by the news. The tumor has grown quite a bit, probably around 25%. It's difficult to tell exactly with this tumor because it's hard to know where it begins and ends. Dr. Broniscer gave us three treatment options and we have decided to go with the one that has the mildest side effects. Kelsey has had some regression in her balance and strength, so we were not surprised that the tumor has progressed. We are obviously upset, but we are hanging in there.
Since Kelsey has had a break from chemo and is feeling better than she has for a bit, we are going to take the week off and head to Louisville. We hope to have some time to visit with family and our Galena family. We will come back next week and head to St. Jude to start the new chemo. It is a pill form, 1 pill a day for 5 days, then three weeks off, then chemo again. We won't have to make as many trips to the hospital, which will be nice.
Please keep us in your prayers.
Simon and Teresa
As for myself, I have raised enough to at least begin the insurance the first of Jan. I'm still making bows and selling the Herbalife nutrition along with having a power mall online. So if you shop on line at the gap, sears, old navy, drug stores, etc. PLEASE email me and I will send you the site to go to and I can earn that way also. As you may be able to tell, I work these as I can so I'm not make the big bucks!!!! My body rather dictates what I accomplish, but with God's help I'm doing fine for me!!!!
It looks like because I did not have insurance for 7 yrs, which no one would cover me, and I did not know about nor was I ever told by the multiple insurance representatives that each state has a "high risk" insurance that one can obtain! URGGG!!! Oh well, God has gotten me through everything else, this will be a breeze!! I have to wait (90 days) before my insurance which I will be paying almost $600 a month for will pay nothing for me for 90 days. The insurance man told me there was no way around this. So now insurance companies won't cover you and then when a high risk one will they punish you for not having insurance that you could not get!!! I have to LAUGH at all of this or I would CRY, (Not good, then ya get a headache from crying!!!!!) So I will smile and pray that God continues as He has for 24 years to fill me with His strength, patients and tenderness until I can have the surgery." And it gives me 3 months to help Holly & make more money to help with the insurance payments, before going through the long rehab after the back surgery. I will see how I do, then if I do really good with the back, I will simply have the hand & ear surgeries during the rehab time. Recoup from it all together!! Yeah right, that is my sensible brain talking on time! The body may revolt and say, "I don't think so!"
Please continue to pray for our family as we journey though Holly's battle with cancer. Please pray for strength, wisdom & ability to encourage her and help her with the girls and any need that arises. Please pray for Chuck to be strong and gain peace in knowing that his dad can help Holly with so many trips to the doctor, that his two precious girls are safe with his mom & that his entire family & Christian family are there for them. It is not easy to let other's step in where you strongly feel that you should be. But with working to support your family you can't always be present physically, though you are in thought. Chuck is still preaching in Nevada, MO and told his dad and I the other night that he didn't know with Holly's cancer if it would be possible to come up with sermons with the emotions he was going through. But he told us it helped him so much and made him stronger, he loves preaching. (We could have told him that, but better to find out yourself and feel those things for yourself!)
I know there are others like Sharon Rogers from the Kansas City area who just had knee surgery, which shows that she will need a knee replacement surgery in a few years, they did everything they could do to help with the pain for now. And Barbara in Nevada, MO who's heart was so badly damaged when the doctors began to work on her heart, they had to transplant half of a pigs heart to keep her alive. And she is doing so well. Thank God that He has given so much knowledge to mankind to help heal our bodies. And there are so many whom have been injured by something and are finding that companies and people don't always do what is right. The frustration and discouragement can get the best of you from time to time. Those are times when we can lean upon the many words that God has so lovingly given unto us, "Be still... wait upon the Lord. And He will give His people peace..." & "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me...." I could go on and on, but I know that you have your words from God that make life easier for you. And in all that we do, we know that satan is there to discourage, and hender us from over coming trials. But we can be zealous and positive with all the promises that God has given to us! Thank God for making every trial know to man beatable with Him by our side!!!!!
I know there are so many struggles as we all journey through our life, our prayer for each of you is that God will be ever present in your minds and that He will give you the strength to endure what you must, knowledge to understand, wisdom to discern, the ability to keep encouraging others during your times of trial, peace and comfort to touch your heart and ease your mind that only God can give. May you always reach for God first in your quest for answers and lean upon His understanding and not the understanding of man. God bless and continue to keep you each in His care during 2009 and always.
Love & Prayers
