Yesterday was not a good day for medical news. As I have already posted, Melinda's latest PET scan was not good and not what we expected. Another dear older sister here at North Bibb went into the hospital with some heart problems and may have to have surgery--she has a history of many, many health issues. Wesley simply went from one doctor's appointment to another yesterday to be with these dear ones as they struggle with these ailments. Poor guy, he looked pretty shell shocked by the end of the day. But I so appreciate that about Wes. Anyone who knows him will tell you that he is always THERE. Whether it is a medical test, procedure, getting test results, surgery or a hospital stay, you can count on him making an appearance and just making sure everyone is being taken care of. I tell people that if you could have just one "civilian" person with you in a medical situation, pick Wes. He gets things done. Never in a boisterous, loud way but in a respectful, "not take no for an answer" way. But days like yesterday take their toll on him...
The highs of yesterday? Well, there are always way too many blessings to count. The Lord is gracious. I've already named one of them--my sweet Wesley. My daughters, always. So, after all that running and tending to folks yesterday, Wes had to work at the newspaper last night. He called me on his way to tell me he had seen a sign advertising Celtic Woman coming to B'ham in March. He knows how much Laurie and I love them and he wanted me to be able to go. I told Laurie and she immediately looked up the info, found out they will be here March 27th. Since that is 2 days before my birthday, she decided that would be an excellent b'day present and bought tickets for the two of us! So I'm going to see Celtic Woman, Lord willing, in March. How exciting!
I hope your week is going well. Please remember all those that need our prayers. Love! |

...is going to get my driver's license renewed. Both mine and Wes' expire Wednesday so we're headed out in a while to complete this task. The good news is that now I'll have the same color hair that is on my license! On my last one, I was blond. We won't even speak of the weight "adjustment" that will need to be made in order to remain truthful...
Wes had a great time in New Orleans. Well except for the actual game. Wow, that was painful. Do not get me started on the utter selfishness of your best player talking to an agent three days before the big game and getting sent home. Yeah, like it would have killed Andre to wait a whole week and a half to start counting all the money he's gonna get in the pros. But good news--signing day is next month and that's a huge part of the football season here in the South.
We had our annual ladies class planning meeting yesterday afternoon. We picked out what book we would be studying and talked a little about all those monthly activities we've been doing all this last year. Yes, they were a huge success and we plan on continuing. For the last 12 months, we have had 2-3 various things a month planned for reasons to get together and just enjoy each other. The turnout for all of them was great and everyone had such a wonderful time. The activities ranged from singings in various homes to bowling. We had Valentine's and Thanksgiving parties. There were tea parties for the ladies and cookie making parties for the kids (and moms). We even went white water rafting! And it all brought us closer together as a family. I'm looking forward to this year.
So, what are you looking most forward to in 2009, Lord willing? |

Wes took me out to lunch today. We went to a little diner we had never been to before. It was a fun little place that had really good Philly Cheesesteaks. The occasion? Just spending some time together but if we needed a reason, yesterday (the 29th) was the 28th anniversary of our first date. I never remember it but Wesley always does. Isn't that so sweet? I remember every detail about that night 28 years ago though. It was a Monday night (just like this year) and we went to a UAB basketball game. We didn't watch much of the game but spent the evening talking and laughing. I knew I was in love and prayed for many more opportunities to be with Wes. God graciously answered that prayer and gave me my greatest earthly blessing--a lifetime with Wesley.
So, 2008 is almost over. In thinking back over the year, I have to say it was a good one. There were changes but they were all for the better. I got to be with people I love and I hope let those people know I loved and treasured them. I remembered to be more thankful and praise The Giver more often. But there is always room for improvement there. I really can't come up with much negative about this past year. Especially when you consider how we, as a congregation, witnessed God's love and care in healing and comforting two of our members who had cancer. Any "problems" I had seem so trivial in the face of that.
I'm looking forward to 2009. Lord willing, there are several changes on the horizon that are very, very good. And several events that I am cheerfully anticipating. The best thing? My God is control of it all and I just need to serve Him and everything else will be.
My wish for us all is a happy new year and that we will be better servants. Thank you all for being such a blessing to me. I love you! |

It's sunny here! That is a big departure from one of the rainiest Decembers (or any month) I can remember. Mind you, I'm not whining--we are blessed to have the rain and God is gracious to give it--but I'm happy for a respite. For you Twilight fans, I feel like I've been living in Forks with all the rain and low cloud cover. I've decided I wouldn't make a good vampire ;)
Wes has a busy day scheduled. First up is the PapaJohns.com bowl game here in town. And then it's straight to the Birmingham News where he has a small part-time gig in the sports dept. He'll have fun, I'm sure. Laurie and Pami are at work, as usual. Good news for them is it's a short work week. Both the girls get off at noon on Wednesday and are off on Thursday. Pami doesn't go back in til Monday! Diana is off at camp. I'm sure she's having a blast. Sure miss her around here though.
So, since I'm pretty much on my own today, what shall I do? Well, a bank run is needful to deposit Wes' pay. And I think a library trip would be fun. I have a couple of books to return and I'll have plenty of time to browse. Usually I'm in a hurry and the library is just one stop on a long list I have to make. Not so much today so I think I'll enjoy it.
So, has everyone "recovered" from the holidays? What's on your to-do list today? And, while I'm in such an inquisitive mood, what's your New Years eve/day plans?
Have a wonderful day! Love! |

I got a very brief visit with my exceptionally sweet Anna and her equally sweet hubby this evening. They are in town for the holidays and I had ordered a couple of her "Simple Sack" creations. She delivered them to me to 1.save me the shipping costs and, 2.let me give her a big hug. In case you're wondering, the Simple Sack is a purse. And I have one--so, so cute and special because Anna designed and made it. The (too) short visit was...too short but sweet nonetheless.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Lord's Day. "Great is His name and greatly to be praised..." |
