After a trip to Goodwill, a dig through the closet, and with the help of a kindly neighbor (whose elderly father lives with her), we came up with costumes the kids loved. Darby was a very not scary pirate, and Noah was himself...just much older. We called him "Pops," and he cracked me up all night! He walked slowly, shuffling his feet and kept forgetting where he put his glasses (on top of his head).
Mr. Rogers sweater: $4
White "pirate" shirt: $2
Wooden cane, reading glasses, and beads: $0
Both kids (who loved their costumes) telling me, "Mom, you're the best!": PRICELESS!!!
We spent zero dollars on our costumes, but I didn't get any "mom, you're the best" comments either. Hmm...perhaps should reevaluate for next year. Your kids look cute!

Here are a couple of pictures from the weekend.
Last night I began an attempt at teaching Darby to crochet.
We sat on the couch with our book, yarn, and hook.
After QUITE a while, Darby looks up at me and says, "You mean we've been sitting here for 30 minutes and we've only gotten this much done (holds up 3 chain stitches)?"
We both cracked up and laughed so hard!
She's made progress, nonetheless, and I think she will enjoy crocheting more when she can actually make something useful.
The kids spent some time with their dogs at the Animal Shelter for 4-H yesterday to encourage responsible dog ownership. It was really...hot.
We got them microchipped for 10 bucks. Quite a deal.
Darby & Twinkle are in Twinkle's portable crate trying to get out of the sun. Did I mention that it was hot?
Hi Aunt Day...I got your message. I am doing REALLY well and am very very happy up here! We have a gospel mtg. this week and I have been working almost every day. Staying VERY busy. :) How are you doing?
So, we've had Zelda almost a week. She is doing so much better today than she was at the first of the week. She would like nothing better than to be held ALL the time. I have had to convince the kids, particularly D, that that is not a good idea for anyone.
Tuesday was rough. It was the day after the night that she (the puppy) cried and cried (shrilly) because she was in her crate (not being held). It was also the day that I told all small humans in the household that they were no longer to hold said puppy as it slept. So, any time she was tired, we put her in her crate.
It was a long day of much puppy crying. It was also completely necessary to get her to where she is today: going to her crate on her own when she's tired. Whew! Now we can actually allow the holding of puppy while she sleeps. Even some larger humans who shall remain nameless are getting in on that (at this very moment).
She is half poodle, half Chinese Crested. You will see that she has plenty of hair, even though 2 of her brothers were quite naked. She is very boingy. I absolutely hate when tiny dogs jump up on people, trying to get their attention. We are trying to only pick her up when she sits. Sitting is her best thing now. :)
