Spent time w/ my friend Esther and her daughter today while my mstr cylndr on the van was being fixed. We had a nice lunch and then went to the library where I read to Makayla (along w/ other children passing by). I like reading to the children...it's fun and Esther said I have a knack for it. Just the dramatic part of myself, I guess. Anyhow, we had an enjoyable time. Yesterday I was visiting their home and played pretend w/ Makayla, then partook in some Jamaican food, which was interesting.
I also had my tail-light fixed while it was in the shop...which is hard to fix because my tailgate trunk is broken so I can't open the trunk at all. So the guy drilled it open, fixed it, and then drilled it shut. I still can't open it....but I won't get pulled over for a bad tail light.
........so I can now stop my van & show the world I'm doing it. LOL!
Mandi 'might' have plans w/ a friend to spend the night so Austin may be by himself for the late evening. He's taking a nap now which isn't good but school is back in session so he needs extra sleep so he's packing it in wherever he can.
Working only 4 days this week....as most of the associates on overnights. This is normal but sad because some are the only breadwinners. It's very slow at the store w/ only a bit of stuff coming in off the trucks each day and most of the overstock (for our dept) already on the floor.
I spent most of Sunday night inventorying some summer clearance that I had just threw in a box in October and didn't count. So that took all night except for about 45 min. to clean up the dept. Tonight I'll see what else is in the back to do and then maybe swipe a broom from the maintenance men and really dig down underneath all the aisle runs and pull out the stuff no one gets daily. IF the guys let me swipe the broom, mind you. ;)
The one gal told me that I must've done too much tho because they just stood around and stared at each other most of the day.......I think there is ALWAYS something to find or figure out to do, but then I'm weird---at work.
No bible study tonight. Not much else going on. Just keeping warm and full before bedtime.
TONIGHT'S FORECAST:
Breezy and colder with lake-effect snow showers increasing. Total accumulation 1"-3"...best chance for 3" in Michigan. Low: 19, Wind: W 12-22 |

That is such an oxymoron isn't it?
My daughter is at work...albeit late due to my sleeping when I should've stayed up this morning. She closed last night about 1:30am and had to be at work at 10:30.
My dog is getting hyper over things outside our house she can't control. Gotta calm her down.....maybe get her to warm my legs as I nap.
The youngest is watching sponge bob, icarly and snoozing. He's not been feeling the best this week, off and on. So he eats a little and then snoozes.
The husband is snoozing at the motel getting ready for another double-shift weekend.
I've only gotten an hours worth of sleep so I too will be hitting the hay. Bunnies are fed and warmer(???) so that's done. I'm leaving other chores for later.
Interesting night at work again.....it was an easy night w/ just housekeeping stuff to do tho. We're now in the slow season and have to hang on until spring. Hours are cut, days are cut, but I have managers that are happy w/ what I'm doing and I probably have the most work of all the staff now in my department. So THAT's job security!!
And I find that I'm now called Momma by many of the 'kids' and a few of the 'gentlemen'. They crack me up! It's hard to think of myself as old enough to be their MOTHERs when I can kick back w/ them like anyone else. oh well. Some I've known for a few years who went on nights too.
One guy is such a nice guy and his wife is adorable (2nd shift cashier). I've known them since before they married and had a baby. He jokingly calls me wife #2 because he spends more time w/ me. We have totally different views on everything (they are pagans for one thing) but we are able to always be cordial and have a good laugh about topics. Should've heard us during the election season! He actually listens to me tho regarding spiritual issues and I think we find more common ground than one would think. Makes for good conversation at lunch.
Work reminds me of school sometimes. We have the nerdy boy table; the popular table; the Bosnian table (don't ever sit in THEIR seats at lunchtime) and the smoker's lounge (never any room and it's stinky). I navigate between popular table and nerdy table depending on who's working and my mood.
BIG FISH SMALL POND you see. LOL!
It's true that sometimes your work family becomes as a second family.....at least for work you get to sift out the icky ones and not sit near them. Ok....so the icky ones do come & sit w/ you sometimes. A few I think just need encouragement and a friend because they are awkward.....but they aren't the icky/creepy people I'm talking about.
REMEMBER: Give the strange coworkers 'a cookie' from time to time and in the future, if they come to the store to blow everyone up....they'll stop and thank you for the cookie and leave you be.
I'm just kidding! ----- I give them pop & gas $$
Long story short:
If nothing else, this "Momma" is loved enough to have the tall big guys get stuff down off the high steel I can't reach even on a ladder. ;) |

Jim is working all hours, and I mean all hours, that anyone else doesn't work or call offs; my hours have been cut a wee bit but that's to be expected for Jan-Mar at WalMart. Austin has been relaxing his way through the vacation and I need to get him ready to return to studies. Amanda has worked almost 35-40 hrs lately but got to spend some time w/ friends off and on during the holidays.
I need to schedule a vacation day or two so I can regroup around here. I have a lot to work on.
Interesting animal news....'graphic':
While we aren't intending to have our dog have puppies, we've put off spaying due to finances. Well, we found that we need to have Maggie spayed sooner rather than later. We noticed her first heat was very light and later she'd kinda 'developed' moreso as if she'd had a litter. In fact, when we took her to the vet, he'd thought she'd had puppies. When we said, 'No', he told us she'd had a false pregnancy and to expect that she'll probably have one each time she goes into heat. Since that interrupts her cycle, her organs can develop problems called "Pyometra".
I didn't think much about it until my mgr at work last week was saying her puggle was ill, vomiting and having a distended belly and not acting right. When she took the dog to the vet, they said the uterus had burst and the dog was septic. This is what can happen w/ pyometra. The dog had the same condition as Maggie where she never had a full heat cycle but instead had a false pregnancy.
So....long story short, summer surgery for Maggie.

Well, I answered it by wrapping totally. It's shocking how much tape I actually use. You'd think I don't want people to open their gifts.
That done..............I need sleep. I did want to watch at least a little of A Christmas Story tho because its so silly and it's on 24 hrs on TBS.
Today we'll be visiting w/ my MIL. I'm bringing only 2 side dishes. I'm hoping we can relax a bit before Jim has to go to work in the afternoon. I go in at 10pm when the store is still closed. What a weird sensation that will be. Oh, I need to remember that I can't purchase anything as the registers will still be closed.
That's about it. We've been suffering/enduring the same as anyone w/ the ice and bitter winds. I hear a warmup is nearing even if short-lived. Although it makes me think of March. YIPEE!
I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday time w/ family and friends. Best wishes for 2009! |
