"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord." I Cor. 15:58
Classes are going to be about 5 times more interesting and exciting than last semester. Not to say, in the least, that last semester was extremely boring, because it was certainly not. It is just that most of my classes are Bible classes, so what's not to be excited about? After all, that's what I came down here for, right?
Here's my schedule:
> NT Hist/Geo with Mr. Longstreth
> Old Testament Poetry w/ Mr. Peeler (this is easily going to be one of my favorites)
> I Corinthians with Dr. Caldwell (an interesting-sounding project will make this class even more intriguing)
> Marriage and Family (already one of my favorites - it will be extraordinarily practical and helpful)
> Civil War and Reconstruction (Dr. Crispell is a pure genius; I want to be a history teacher just like him one day ;)
> Greek (challenging, yes, but I'm beginning to like it more every day; hmmm, strange how that works...)
Tonight, services were very encouraging. I was very pleased to see my new church family and to study the Bible with them again.
The Arete devotional tonight was also very eye-opening as well.
Well, I think it's a few minutes past my bed time. Good night.
If only that was as strange as it got. I'm telling you, be glad I refrain from my heads running commentary. You'd be amazed that it's even possible to notice some things...
I never thought I would see the day when we would have to worry about whether the "pastor" who prays at the presidential inauguration would pray in Jesus' name or not. Hmmm, I wonder what this says about our nation.
This reminds me of my high school graduation ceremony last May. The Third Honor Graduate always gets to lead the "invocation," or prayer, and it just so happened that our Third Honoree was an atheist. It was rather interesting. Sad, but interesting.
My brother was sitting in the audience that night, and after the "prayer" was finished, someone sitting behind him whispered, "I ain't never heard a prayer like THAT before!" I'll bet he hasn't, and neither have I.
The name is not so important as the attitude of the person behind it. Jesus taught that many would act in His name and yet He would not know them. The same is true of prayer.
I've never been a big fan of making a "New Year's resolution" list, but I do think that there is some merit in doing so. Sometimes it's easy to just make a list of things you want to accomplish but never finish even half of them. But we should all set solid goals for our future, despite how small or large they may be (just don't get too large; I have [ahem] never been guilty of that [ahem]) and stick to them. Yes, they may change based upon experiences, but don't give up on them. Finish them.
As a friend of mine says, and which I have never forgotten, "Stick it to the man!"
What do you plan to accomplish in this coming year?
Good words... I plan to work to be a better Christian. I have learned so much recently and realized several things that I do need to be changed. Even though they don’t seem wrong, now that I have studied about them, I realize how I should be doing things so much better. I want to thank you for all your words and how you have been so kind to me. I really appreciate everything. Let the New Year begin!
I know! Ever since last year (which was... well, you know) I've been saying they would be big this year. Even so, it surprised me that they made it to the playoffs. My dad is under the impression that they won't make it to the super bowl... which he's probably right, but, hey, they have a chance. So who’s your team?
Well, my cousin is a Colts fan, so I guess I could let you go on that one :). I don't like the Bucs or Patriots either (just don't tell my sister-in-law that).
It's that time of year again, when families and friends get together to enjoy one another's company, when apple pie for breakfast and lazy afternoon walks are the norm, and when cold weather makes everything seem, well, just more "Christmacy."
As to the latter, I must make a statement about South Georgia's (ahem) winter weather. Yesterday it began to get a little chilly, and tonight's low is about 29 degrees. Yet, according to the radio's forecast for the next few days I happened to hear this afternoon, it is supposed to warm up the rest of this week till, on Christmas day, we reach a high temperature of 78 degrees. Hmmm...does this sound odd to you?
...And I used to not believe in global warming...
My break has been really, really good so far. I hope ya'll are well, and that you are taking advantage of the free time you have to spend with friends, family, and meditating on God's word.
If I don't post between now and Christmas (a highly likely occurrence), then "Merry Christmas to all of you, and to all of you, a good night."
thanks! happy holidays to you too; and Oscar Wilde also wrote, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, which I have but haven't read yet; I'm betting that it's going to be a wonderful book!
thanks!!Almost Christmas!!!MAn i cant believe how fast the year has flown!!Seems like every year it gets faster!IT got over 80 degreees for like 4 days here a few days ago. Then the next day it went to 19degrees!How messed up is that?I mean its December right?lol!I hope you have a wonderful chirstmas with your family!
78 degrees on Christmas doesn’t sound weird for here in Florida, unfortunately. I miss the snow we had in Ohio and even the cool weather in California. I’m glad you’re having a good time… I don't exactly write... I'm putting ideas together and trying to figure out what sounds best. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have a lot of stories that I've written or started on. I always feel awkward sharing them. I guess that's something I'll have to get over with from all the research papers I have to write/have written. I still haven’t figured out what style of writing I am best at (plot-line, etc.). I should stop babbling now :)... Merry Christmas!
