So, most folks I know got some device over the holidays that allows for mobile internet access and/or other assorted handheld goodies: Macbooks, Iphones, Ipod touch, GPS devices, PSP, etc. All the while, I kept thinking: man I'd love to have mobile web on wifi at least, but there were reasons to pass on all options: Macbook (have a laptop already) ; Iphones (locked into cell contract til Sept.) ; Ipod touch (too expensive) ; GPS devices (got basic model for B-day); PSP (have a DS).
And then, this morning, Luke walks downstairs with a Dell Axim x50 handheld computer that my parents gave me a few years ago and I'd just stashed in a drawer. Luke said, "dad, can I have this?" I said, "surrrrrre.... wait a minute, let me see that." Sure enough, within 3 minutes I was checking the weather and screening emails via wifi. No, mac. nuts, I cannot enlarge or shrink text with the patented "index/thumb sweep." But it is still touch screen and was a nice find. What's old is new again.
Since Tony posted, I'll add the reason why I cannot afford an Ipod Touch: Tony brought this new Taylormade Burner driver to Texas and coaxed me to hit it. It was love at first strike and I bought one two days later.
My kids spoiled me with two new "gadgets" over the holidays. For Christmas they gave me a badly needed external hard drive for the pictures that were using all my ancient desktop computer memory. AND THEN ... an early birthday present ... a Blackberry Storm! I was way past due for a new phone, and I get a 1/2-the-price discount with my EM employee discount. FUN!
Sunday night sermon will revolve around the faith of Daniel. There is something Daniel possessed in any and all situations that I am resolved to build stronger this year: BOLDNESS.
He stood up for the right to eat proper food as a teenager.
He prophesied hard truths to 2 powerful kings. And told one of them to stop sinning.
He worshipped God in that window, even after the edict was signed.
There are things that need to be said and done. How many times in '08 did God look down at me, waiting on me to say and do them? I am resolved to be bolder for Truth and tell people what God desires them to hear, confess Christ more readily, and be a light in this world that reflects more brightly the Light of the world.
Anybody else have spiritual resolves for this new year?
BOLDNESS Yes, too many times I have "missed an opportunity" when I should have been more BOLD, maybe bringing to light some inaccuracy, or wrong thinking... Thank you for your BOLDNESS and may you have increase in that area this year. I intend to work on my bible knowledge this year, I'd like to be stronger in that area.
My goal for this year is to do more for others. I know of people that are sick or in need and I choose to let someone else do the helping. I need to be more bold, also.
Tied... Wednesday over the internet with family in Argentina. Thursday morning just the 4 of us. Thursday afternoon with in-laws and family and Thursday evening with additional family.
We had Hutson Christmas yesterday, just the two of us either Wednesday night or Thursday morning, Effinger Christmas Thursday during the day, then Rowell (Mom's side) in Oklahoma on Saturday. Crazy! :)
We only draw names for 1! So, too much buying. We're so popular with Discover Card that they invite us to their house for a personal Hannah Montanta show... and... we get in. (That one's for you: Rene, Jen and Jenny).
Virtual Christmas! I want to hook up a computer to the TV and a real video camera (instead of a dinky webcam) to do video chats. It'd be a lot more fun if everyone's faces were closer to life-sized.
Does anyone remember the speech by Donald Rumsfeld in 2002 concerning "intelligence" from Iraq? If not, you can youtube it under "rumsfeld known unknowns." If you have heard the 1 minute portion on knowns in Iraq, please help us clearly understand these three levels of information: (or just guess)
^^^I've looked at it before. It is fairly sad to read over. It was for me anyway. But I do agree with the creator of the that site... those people do need help
