I'm working on an actual post. But in the meantime since some of you asked me to do so, I'll share a few pictures of my new car, Riley. I've been really enjoying his company, and he loves giving rides to all my friends and family. And he really knows how to rock it out with his Bose system! :)
Riley is seen here in the same spot I placed Prince Charming when I brought him home for the first time. After installing running boards (By myself! Woo hoo!) It looks like he has a perpetual smile. So you could see the color better. It's called "Garnet," but it really looks more like plum or eggplant. In fact, a few friends have taken to calling him, "The Eggplant." Poor Riley!
BTW... HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! =) I just remembered who else had a birthday on Dec. 7th! ;D I feel sort of bad but you have to realize that I was celebrating that birthday with 4 other people thinking that should definitely cover everybody. (and then there were several on the 6th and on the 8th) lol!! Hope it was FUN!!!!
An interesting thing happened late in today's football game between the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals: a group prayer. Not the kind of cursory benediction many major sports competitions include in their opening moments and not the kind of backwards ego-boosting chest-thumping, skyward-pointing that players claim "thanks God for a touchdown." Rather, it was a heartfelt plea to God for the health and wellbeing of a fellow colleague.
Immediately after catching a long pass from Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin was struck by an accidental helmet-to-helmet crash. Boldin had first been hit from behind by Jets free safety Kerry Rhodes, causing his head to snap forward, and then — almost simultaneously — he was hit in the front by strong safety Eric Smith, causing Boldin’s head to snap backwards. Both Smith and Boldin were injured, but Boldin never got up.
While the teams, trainers and staff quickly gathered around their respective players to assess the extent of their injuries I caught a glimpse of Warner, who had knelt on one knee near where Boldin lay seemingly unconscious. Warner, Boldin's former teammate at Florida State, was saying something to another player. Within minutes, both teams' benches had emptied out, and most of the players from both teams were kneeling in a circle around Warner. Warner was leading them in prayer for the fallen receiver. Reading Warner's lips, I even caught the "amen" at the end, just before they all rose to help place Boldin in a waiting ambulance.
The scene moved me to tears. Of course, I naturally felt pity for the fallen player, but it goes beyond that. Perhaps because our congregation has spent the last three weeks studying prayer, I had those thoughts in my mind as I watched. Our lesson this morning finished up with an encouragement to not be afraid to pray, even in public when appropriate, because we never know what example we may be providing for those around us. I have to say, I felt encouraged by Warner's reaction and subsequent display of supplication before God, and by the way he brought all of the other players, Cardinals and Jets alike, together to plead on behalf of their comrade. If you've never thought about the example you set when praying, give it some thought. Not that our faith should be put on display before our neighbors for the sake of our own egos, but because you may encourage others to consider God and his power and mercy as a result.
This is a wonderful story Lisa. I just don't even listen to ball games, but occasionally hear something like this where a player is not such a celebrity status chaser but seeks to be a better person. It cheers me towards sports people. Please come - let us know when because we are talking/planning some travels too to see girls.
Something similar to this happened at my school, Except the guy that was injured, he broke kis neck. Hi had to get a metal plate screwed between his c4 and c5
Lis!!!!!! Thank you for the birthday surprise!!!!! I can't wait to listen to it ~ new music ~ FUN! I hope you are feeling better, I was sad that you were not there last night. Thank you again!

oh dear!!!! why oh why did you EVER put that thought in my head?????!!! Yes they look sooo much MORE like donkeys than horses... BUT!!! no... donkeys are donkeys and stick ponies are stick PONIES!!! ... no matter how much their proportions are out of whack! ;) LOL! Btw... I love hearing from you, especially recently because it makes me laugh!! ♥
Hi Lisa, Heard you still were not feeling well. Take care of yourself and hope you are back to your chipper self soon. I really missed you this week - past week now. :)
Lis, that was a VERY special evening! I was telling my friends about it - it WAS the last time I had gone anywhere at NIGHT for fun before. I mean, it is not as if I would have forgotten anyway, but since such times for me are so RARE, they are extra special! Thank you again for that special evening that I still relive many times over!
2. How do you say your Pleo name? I am curious... used to pronounce it E roov, but more recently realized that knowing you and some of the fancy names you know, it could be e roo vay.... And what does it mean???? Just curious!
Missed you around our supper table tonight. It did not feel like a Monday. The ironic part of this whole night was that we missed most of the lesson, we thought they met at 7:30 so we sat around the table and busied ourselves until it was time to leave. Were we surprised when we got there and the lesson was almost over. Got to enjoy wonderful bretheren afterwards so not all was lost. See you on Thurs.
You know, I am terrified of the results. I am encouraged by one important thing! FL voted to preserve Biblical marriage in its constitution, and to recognize no other!!!!
Well, Pete and Sarah managed to get hitched without a hitch! Though we are now feeling definite effects from the leftovers of Hurricane Hanna, the majority of the rain and wind held off long enough for the wedding ceremony at Beavertail. With the mist floating in and out of the scene the whole time, the affair was even more surreal. The last of my brothers and sisters here (the ones my age) are finally happily married to the spouses of their dreams. It's such a beautiful thing! May God bless each one.
Before the storm gets any worse, I figured I'd use the time to post some pics of the wedding. I'm not the best photographer, but at least they're something, right? **Oh, and now there's a couple more pics here. They're much better! :)
Out of the three, I like the GMC ACADIA, although I would personally never buy another GM vehicle! I have gone foreign! And YES, your pics are better than nothing! And, they are better than that! Thank you for sharing the day... I was invited but couldn't come, and I was bummed about it! Thank you for the glimpse of the day!
oh you are such a dear dear sweet friend! Thank you sooooo much for the wedding pics... wish I could've been there!! Hope you find a good car... but I'll miss the fun times to which Prince Charming escorted us. Saw Tim and April today at volleyball mania and I happened to wear the stick pony shirt which they loved! =] Hope Hanna doesn't harm y'all too much! ♥
Thanks so much for posting the pics. Very nice. As for the cars they are pretty nice but I'm surprised you would go for such a large not gas friendly vechicle. Happy car shopping!
We went to Saturn this morning to get the oil changed on both of ours and I asked to see the garnet outlook. Teresa (the sales woman who sold us our black VUE) pointed it out and said, "It's not quite garnet. It's actually more like an eggplant color" HAHA!! :)
Looks great! Can't wait to see pictures!!! You can definitely road trip here. :)
Well, I had a GREAT time visiting them this weekend. We managed to fit so many fun things into a short time. We got some really nice quality time with her grandmother, and with them when they returned from a family reunion, and even more fun times with them at our little Fourth of July cookout. As if that wasn't enough fun, an enjoyable evening at his parents' place for fireworks and visiting capped off one of our nights.
Soooo much more to say and to elaborate on, but it'll have to wait a bit. Pictures too. He led singing Sunday morning and preached a lesson Sunday night. He's so talented! And the lesson was one which I look forward to chewing on some more.
Gotta run for now. I was getting tired of watching (and listening to) my blog blow up, so I figured I'd give a quick update. I love them so much and am dearly greatful for their generosity and hospitality and the time we were able to share. Maybe it'll become a new July tradition?! :)
*Note: I was informed by a reliable source before leaving KY that the term "visiting" has a slightly different meaning in the south than up here. Please note that there were no "older people in hospitals" involved in the above, but there was quite a bit of sharing of very memorable times together, with much laughing and joy.
I'm so glad you had a good time, I just knew you would ;)! We missed you last night - supper just was not the same - at bible study. And I always miss you at services especially when we go back for singing.
I would love to visit Boston Proper with you! :)
Did I tell you that we (Courtney and I) are taking Tara to Franklin Park Zoo for her birthday? We got a membership there for her birthday gift.
Lis, thank you so much for the birthday card! It came Saturday, and it was a pleasant surprise. I opened it on my birthday, in the wee hours before I went to bed, because I knew I would not have time to do it ON my b-day otherwise. I was so thankful for the special gift you enclosed, as well as for the words of the card - how fitting they were to my life right now, and how thoughtful! Thank you!
For those of you who really wanted to see the message self-destruct but missed it, here's a little taste of what you missed. Sorry it's a little fuzzy, but hey don't blame me if you were sleeping when it actually happened. I guess you'll have to settle for second best......;)-
(Note: Hit "refresh" or F5 to see it again.)
I actually came back to see if you had put a graphic up. :) Nice job!
Less than 1 week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How excited are you???
Tomorrow is tile the shower day (I hope. Tuesday was supposed to be tile the shower day, but we hit every snag in the book and didn't even get all of the hardibacker hung. Anyway, here's hopin'!)
Ok, well.... I'm really nervous that we won't get the bathroom done in time.... :( We are focusing on the things that will make it functional so at its best, it will be functional but lacking trim, molding, pretty things, etc. At its worst, we will have a functioning toilet and sink but not a shower. We're really pushing on the shower, but it's slow going. Bring the shampoo just in case......
