It seems like forever since I posted.. 12-03-08 04:02pm EST
Thanksgiving was good. We spent it with my mother and father in law. Too much food. It should really be a crime to fix that much food and then not use it all. I mean really, is that showing thankfulness? (Just something I've been thinking about)

I survived working Black Friday. The news keeps telling me the economy is bad, and maybe it is. But I sure can't see it. Sales at my store were over 700K. That is one store, one day! I'm no expert in these things. It just seems to me that if they wouldn't talk about it so much the situation might improve. They are adding to the fear, so those who have money to spend are holding back. People sell stocks which is what causes negativity in the stock market. Stop talking so much about it and the market might start to correct itself.

I am very sad about what happened at the Walmart in New York. An associate got trampled to death. For what? GREED! Nothing is worth all that. I'd rather be home warm in my bed at 5 AM if I didn't have to work.

Friday after I got home we put up our Christmas tree. Now decorations are strewn everywhere. I need to finish and get them put away.

I'm looking forward to my visit home during the holidays. It will be the first time I get to see my new nephew Carter. He's one month old already. On New Year's Eve my new niece, Holly, will be born. They just keep coming.
lyndieI heard about the guy in NY... I just can't imagine. What is WRONG with people?!

I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving! G'luck with the tree decorating!
zanneIt seems like there is a story every year like that on Black Friday. It is really very sad. The media is making the economy situation worse than it really is. I'm glad you had a good tgiving! Xmas sounds like it will be good too!
lindseybI heard about that guy at walmart. People are messed up. I'm excited for little holly to be here!
pollymhglad you had a good Thanksgiving. I agree with media not helping with the situation.
queenbeetleI agree with you about the tv making things worse, I told Brandon that very same thing a few weeks back. Glad you made it through black friday.
holly_annHolly? What a delightful name! ;) I'm glad you will get to visit here during the holidays. What days will you be around?

And I agree that they should stop talking about the economy so much. But, they won't!
sarMy daughter works at Target and they aren't making their sales. They are letting all of the seasonal people go and told them that their last week will be next week. Steph is not seasonal, she has worked there for over 2 years. Maybe everyone is going to Wal-Mart this year?
loruhamaThanks for the love!

Randomness 11-20-08 12:33pm EST
I went to get my driver's license renewed this morning. It costs $20 now in Kentucky. Is this average, or high? I will say it was the easiest DMV experience I have ever had. I took a book expecting to wait. There is always a wait in IL. Wow, I was in and out in about 10 minutes.

I did a little shopping too. I got myself a Peanuts Christmas coloring book and box of 64 crayons. I haven't had my own crayons in years, but it seems like it will be fun. Am I weird?

I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. I have the day off work. Surprise. I didn't even ask for it. We're going to my in-laws. Can't travel because unfortunately I work at 5 am black Friday. I really don't like getting up that early. Sometimes I hate having a job that revolves around Christmas, but I guess these days I am truly blessed to have mine.

Also, I am starting to like the re-useable shopping bag idea. I resisted at first because I don't believe in global warming and in no way wish to promote it. However, I work with the plastic bags everyday, and they stick together, or won't come open, or tear with very little in them. Not to mention they just accumulate around the house. I have a couple of the re-useable bags and am trying to get in the habit of taking them with me. That will be the hardest thing..having them when I need them.

I really didn't care for the book "Twilight". I just don't understand the hype. I am now reading a Vince Flynn novel which is much more exciting.
lovnprayersThat brings back memories of when you first got your license. :o)
zanneI think everyone likes to color now and then!! ;-0 Yay for days off! I hope you enjoy it!
queenbeetleThe DMV in Bardstown is pretty good. I've never waited there long. I don't remember it being that high to renew though. I thought it was like 7 bucks. A lot of the women on my mom's side of the family get a new box of crayons each Christmas. Even Brandon has one. I'm sure working black friday morning will be loads of fun. Don't get trampled. :)
curlieColoring is soooo relaxing! We are big Peanuts Christmas fans too. :)

So glad you have the day off for Thanksgiving! :)

Hilander back in Rockford used to sell canvas bags back in the 1980s. They were obviously very weird, but it made sense since the bags lasted longer and weren't wasteful. They stopped for a while when Kroger bought the stores, but I'm sure now they're doing the canvas thing like everyone else again now that it's trendy. ;)
lyndieYou know, coloring with Munchkin is one of my favorite things! :)

You know, I loved the Twilight series, but the first book is a bit slow. Vince Flynn? I haven't heard of him... I'll have to check him out.

And yay for having Turkey day off! :)
lindseybwhere do you work that makes you be there at 5 am?? yuck.
ucnclmealHooray for having Thanksgiving off!
Boo for working on Black Friday. :( Does the staff at least bring in leftovers and goodies to snack on for the break room? That's what we used to do on Black Friday. Of course, I worked at a much smaller store...
I'll have to look into Vince Flynn. I'm in between books right now, and looking for something new.
loruhamaIs Twilight one of the vampire ones? I haven't read it. The only reading I get done usually is what we are reading for school, which I really enjoy. I am reading the memoirs of Dick Winters, though - "Beyond Band of Brothers."

Glad you have thanksgiving off. Enjoy.
norriejHooray for getting Thanksgiving off!! I'll bet it's pretty frustrating working on black Friday though.
graminatorThank you! You, too!
cdillman23I bought my reusable bags when Kroger in TN paid me back for every time I used them. It was only 4 cents for each bag but that was for every time I used them. So, I think the bags paid for themselves (or almost) before we moved. I didn't buy them cause of the global thing either just hated all of the plastic bags at home!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
holly_annYou are not weird for buying yourself a coloring book. I love coloring! Sometimes we have contests at work :) I'm so glad to hear of someone else who didn't like Twilight. I am with you on wondering what the hype is about...

Fireproof 11-09-08 02:27pm EST
I dragged my hubby to see the movie Fireproof yesterday. Actually, I had to bribe him with chocolate chip cookies. It was a fantastic movie. It's rated PG for some of the fire scenes. But there is no bad language, and no nudity. It actually has a spritual message regarding marriage. I like to support movies like that when they come out, so Hollywood might produce more family friendly movies, and less trash. I guess trash is what makes money for them. SAD.

The movie stars Kirk Cameron. I had a teenage crush on him. My bedroom walls were plastered with pics of him. Fortunately, I outgrew that. I was very impressed with the message of this movie though. Go see it!
sarI loved KC when I was a teenager! I had pictures of him in my locker!
turtle_girlHow sad is it that wholesome movies are so hard to come by these days that we feel SO excited when a movie is actually decent? And I had no idea Kirk Cameron was still around. Wasn't his little sis a big star too (Full House) Wonder what happened to her...
cdillman23I had a crush on Kirk too and then I heard him talking about his religious views and almost fell over from his views!! And, yes his sister is Candice Cameron from Full House.
mrs_poochiewe enjoyed that movie too, we saw it a couple weeks ago.
queenbeetleI've been hearing alot about this movie. A friend of mine went to see it and she said that she about cried all the way through it. I hate sad movies so I decided not to watch it. Did you think it was sad?
norriejWe loved that movie!! VERY good message!! Made by the same people who made Facing the Giants and Flywheel!!

I'm trying to be optimistic about a liberal socialist president. Anyone have any uplifting thoughts for me??
loruhamaRaid the Halloween stash - that seems to help.
crazy_mamaI'm with you on this one. At least we have 2 months to get used to the idea.
terryfrancisGod is in control. Does it get any more uplifting than that?
holly_annOh, I hope you can be optimistic! There are lots of positives to focus on. First off, not all of any candidates campaign "promises" come to fruition (remember Bush's "humble foreign policy?") so I don't want to sit around in gloom and doom and wait for all these perceived tragedies. We can cross those bridges when we come to them. Also, let's be excited that we are getting past the racial bigotry that has stained our country and we have elected an African American president who will hopefully be a great role model for young African Americans across the country. There are more, but I know my husband wanted to chime in too.
jaimerJust pray. Pray that he will seek wise counsel and heed it.
zanneGod is in control! He can use evil for good. And remember, the president can't just go in and change everything. Think of how manythings Bush wanted to do that got rejected. Hopefully he can't do too much in 4 years! ;-0
mrs_poochiecongrats on the nephew, I missed the previous post.
queenbeetleI have a really hard time with following political stuff, just never had the mind for it. But I remember how immoral Clinton was but we had a good economy under him. Maybe things will get some better under Obama money wise. (One can hope.)
queenbeetleOh and now that the election is over, the political phone calls should slow down. :)
jhaganThis is not our kingdom. Our kingdom has a truly just King. Our kingdom is not a democracy subject to the whims and ignorance of men. Our kingdom is everlasting. Our King is coming for us. Truly, the best is yet to come.
graminatorThere are some great thoughts from a good friend of ours here ...
