whipsmileok...that picture is kind of cute! :-)
fullofgraceyour picture is kind of cute!...lol...
trxIn accordance with the kindly Badger's injunctions, the two tired animals came down to breakfast very late next morning, and found a bright fire burning in the kitchen, and two young hedgehogs sitting on a bench at the table, eating oatmeal porridge out of wooden bowls. The hedgehogs dropped their spoons, rose to their feet, and ducked their heads respectfully as the two entered.

`There, sit down, sit down,' said the Rat pleasantly, `and go on with your porridge. Where have you youngsters come from? Lost your way in the snow, I suppose?'

`Yes, please, sir,' said the elder of the two hedgehogs respectfully. `Me and little Billy here, we was trying to find our way to school -- mother would have us go, was the weather ever so -- and of course we lost ourselves, sir, and Billy he got frightened and took and cried, being young and faint-hearted. And at last we happened up against Mr. Badger's back door, and made so bold as to knock, sir, for Mr. Badger he's a kind-hearted gentleman, as everyone knows -- -- '

`I understand,' said the Rat, cutting himself some rashers from a side of bacon, while the Mole dropped some eggs into a saucepan. `And what's the weather like outside? You needn't "sir" me quite so much?' he added.

`O, terrible bad, sir, terrible deep the snow is,' said the hedgehog. `No getting out for the likes of you gentlemen to-day.'
tortillavery cute!

Fans 08-21-08 07:01pm CST
This post has been brought to you by Mike, although inadvertently. I might also be repeating myself, but considering we're all on PLEONAST, that's not a problem.

Anyway, one day several years ago, Mike and I were talking about who knows what (most likely some nerdy topic), and he mentioned something that's stuck in my head ever since. He said that we all need fans. Granted, we live in the South, so for approximately five months out of the year, we do indeed need fans. But of course, that's not what he meant. What we all need are people who cheer for us, who support us through good and bad, and who care about whether we stand or fall.

My mom described it a different way--she asked once who fills me up. (The very first person I thought of, of course, was her :).)

This all came to mind because of how many cheerleaders I've had lately with my health goals. Last night I reached my halfway mark--50 pounds--and actually went past it by 0.6 lbs. The support has been overwhelming and extremely appreciated. I know I couldn't do it without everyone who's made a point to cheer me on.

So, my question today is...who are your fans? Who fills you up? Who shares "God's love in skin" with you? Here's your chance to honor the people in your life who support you and cheer you. Feel free to tell stories, to link folks, to applaud! We all need the inspiration and encouragement of hearing positive stories. So please share!

madtomkiddI was going to comment that - from the look of the new pic - you've lost some weight. I guess I'm right and I must have missed the post about the goals when I wasn't checking much a while ago.

Way to go! 50# is a big number!

And, I don't take it for granted, because far too often this isn't the case, but my Super Supportive Wife is my biggest fan. She always tells me what I need to hear. Runners up would probably include Josh and Jeff - of course I get the well intentioned blunt force trauma to the posterior from Ethan at times, too.
scbrewerYay for the 50! 50 is nifty :) haha... yeah.

My fan club would have to be my husband, my parents and my grandma. And some of my friends, including you!
simon_saysIn no particular order, my husband (doesn't care about pleonast), my mom (lurker), she, she, and she are mine. Those three (linked) girls have seen and are seeing me through some of the toughest times in my life.
simon_saysp.s. Congrats on the loss!
gallatinrealtorgreat to see you last night!
leahwalWhat an awesome accomplishment! I have noticed the weight loss but haven't said anything- because you never know how one might react when talking about someones weight. I recently joined the gym and am really doing well. My goal is to loss 20 lbs. But it's mainly to give me more energy and to feel better overall. I can't believe or even imagen what lossing 50 lbs is like....that is so great! You must be feeling pretty good inside and out...way to go! My fan is my husband. Even when we first started dating in college- he was very supportive and was always ready to help me with all my goals--- he is my earthly rock and I love him dearly for that! This is a very encourageing and uplifting post-- thanks Marla- and you are doing such a great job! I always wondered what the numbers under your picture were for-- now I know. :) Love ya! ♥
spike427you look beautiful in the new photo!! :)
i have just a very good friend who always makes me smile and feel better about myself. i love being that friend back to her, too!
trxspaghetti fills me up - and that's the problem!
nontradishWow! Yea, Marla!!
nontradishMy biggest fans are my 3 daughters and my husband. (I think my son is a fan, too...but he doesn't verbalize it. haha)
tortillaYOU look GREAT!! I SO wish I could see you. I am so proud of you!! OF COURSE, I give all credit to my unbeatable husband who would stay up all night with me if I needed him to EVER to listen to my pitiful needs!!!!!! LOVE YOU, SISTER! I bet you feel GREAT!!!!

jaclynbrownAAAhhhh! congrats! I need to do the same. You are a motivator! My church friends are great fans - Marla, Emily, Misty, Erin, and Jennifer especially.
whipsmileand i think i have a handful of fans. I have people that root for me...but sadly the number is much less for those who BELIEVE in me.
matthew_and_brookeI'm thinking Andy but I could be wrong... sleep deprivation does funny things to one's memory.
matthew_and_brookeThat was regarding the picture, not this blog! :) I'll have to think about it.
kellymckibkibcongratulations way to go! I hope to pass 50 one day, its coming slowly but i'll get there. my personal cheerleaders and my mom and my good friend Abby.

Funniest thing I've seen in a while 08-19-08 09:05pm CST
It won't embed, so go here.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

And inquiring Marlas want to know...who's the guy who anchors NBC's morning Olympic coverage? He reminds me of Kent Brockman on the Simpsons, and it wouldn't surprise me if this guy was an inspiration for the character. Either way, he's deadpan funny. And I can't find his name on the internet.
spike427ok, that was hilarious. oh man.
notcoolVery funny!!!!!!!!
amyjane72the morning coverage guy's name is jim lampley. he's been a sports guy for a long time. :)
marlaTHANK YOU!!! I couldn't find his name! And doesn't he remind you of Kent Brockman? :)
marlaIn the sense that he looks like him...Lampley's quite inoffensive, as opposed to Brockman.
mother_henThat was funny. Thanks!
fullofgracethis was even better....

lefantstafthat is totally a reason i would like to be a tv anchor. i SO wanna luge!
burntcoffeeThat video was great, but the conversation in the beginning was hilarious.
trxUh, can you explain their rhythmic gymnastic performance?
kendraluluBoth of those were really funny! :)
bigdeborahI want to try that!!!!!
nativetexanShe beat me to it. It is Jim Lampley and, yes, he does remind me of Kent Brockman.

Ok, so I lied. 08-10-08 11:08pm CST
About the Olympics, that is. I just watched the American men smash the 400m freestyle relay. WOW. WOW. WOW. I still have some tears in my eyes from getting so excited.

WOW. Outstanding.

I barely watched any of the Athens games, but I was really into the swimming and diving during the Sydney games. So I justify my "lie" by saying that I'd forgotten how exciting they can be.

WOW.
spike427was that not so thrilling?!! amazing. to me, that was the olympics in a single event.
lefantstafokay marla. YOU will understand...
I GOT TO SEE NEIL DIAMOND IN CONCERT!!!!!!!!!
it was freakin amazing. AMAZING.
scbrewerI was SCREAMING at the TV... I have NEVER done that for the olymics... it was AMAZING.
madtomkiddWe watch bits and pieces... I wanted to see the relay, but we're EDT, not CDT, so I just watched a couple of swim races and headed to bed.
whipsmileThat was AWESOME!!!

I let out a massive screech when they touched the wall first!
curtisamythe 4x100 relay was so exciting! yeah....smash. that made it even better
mini_lizziei cry when i hear the national anthem when someone wins a gold.....EVERY TIME! :)
fordfabulousI'm watching the opening ceremonies tonight - via a recording, just because everyone is raving about it! I'll call you tonight and catch up.
notcoolI was loving it! Really exciting!
lefantstafthe man is 67, and he puts on a show like he's still 25. love it.
kendralulu^The Diamond is the MAN!! Welcome to the fan club!! :)
wifeletWe watched the Olympics for a while last night ... but it was pretty unfulfilling. Matt covered my eyes during the mens diving, and then I covered his eyes during the womens beach volleyball. Then our arms got tired, so we turned off the TV and came upstairs.
muskogeeThanks Marla! Good luck on the rest of your program! How's the program going for you?
kendraluluWhat are you doing in that picture?
marlahaha...you can't see it very well, but it looks like I'm eating my roommate's chair ;)
leahwalIt just amazes me how fast those guys and gals can swim. It's like watching mini boats in the water- so fast and so good! I enjoy watching them when they are really close- especially when the USA guys are on someones heels and they come back with full force and take the gold! GO USA!!!!
ashliLOL...you are so funny! I'll see you tonight!
brazil_villeyes.... I admit it.... I'm an olympics junkie this year
