If only we'd known this was news worthy, we could've made headlines 7.3 years ago.
In other news, we've had some unexpected company for the last week or so... Matthew's folks were having some work done on their house, and it made a chemical smell invade their house. Since Matthew's Dad is sensitive to chemicals, he had to evacuate immediately, so he called and asked if he could come over till the smell abated. Well, it hasn't abated yet! It's better, but not safe for him. I'm just glad we could provide a safe haven for them. And Abigail has *thoroughly* enjoyed the extra time with Pepaw and Grandma. As far as Max is concerned, the more (people to pet him), the merrier!
It's snowing outside! The forecast says less than an inch accumulation, but I think we might get a little more. It's already covering the street and the sidewalk, and it started about an hour ago. We will see, though, we will see.
I like my doctor. She's actually a FNP or a PAC, I forget, but she's my medical provider. I liked her before today, but today at my check up, she took off a skin tag off of me in no time flat. It only hurt a little bit. (No anesthetic)
It was the one on my face, if you've seen me in the last several years. The one that EVERYONE thought was a crumb, though how I would get a crumb that high on my cheek is beyond me.
I know medical stuff of any nature can gross people out, but I am just happy that I have my face back to myself.
Matthew couldn't even tell where it had been. I can, but part of that will fade, and it's smaller than a freckle. Anyway, I can cover that with make up. I'd have to wear more make up than Dolly Parton to cover up a whole skin tag.
On a wholly unrelated note, I woke up this morning convinced that it was 2 days before Christmas, and I hadn't bought ANY presents. I started to panic. As the fog lifted, I realized that I hadn't bought any presents because no one has sent out their wish lists (this much is true). So I was kind of mad at everyone for a few seconds until the fog lifted further, and I realized that it's not even Thanksgiving yet. Then I had a good laugh at myself. :)
I remember once, 2 nights before Family Day, I woke up in the middle of the night. I don't remember why, or what I did, just that I went back to sleep. When Mom came in the morning, I was convinced it should be Family Day because I'd had 2 sleeps. I was sorely disappointed.
All this proves 2 things:
1) I have a very poor sense of time
2) I am not entirely coherent in the morning
I'd better get to bed so I can be coherent in the morning. Abigail is missing her Grandma day tomorrow. My mother in law is in Ohio caring for her mother. So tomorrow we'll do some fun stuff together, just me and my girl. Hopefully, we'll hit the Children's Museum, and then for dinner I'll make macaroni and cheese. :) I need to hit the grocery store and gather the ingredients for Miss Vickie's Famous Cheesecake to serve after our Bible study Saturday afternoon. I did make it for lectures, but I only got about 2 tablespoons' worth by the time I got to eat some.
Philip and I are actually sending out our wish list this weekend! But we both have lists on Amazon if you want to get a jump start. I'm sorry I thought your skin tag was a crumb ;), you'd be amazed at the places Eden can get crumbs while she's eating. Looking forward to seeing you all in a monthish!
yay for no skin tag! I actually FINALLY took care of one myself several days ago under my arm. A trick my MIL showed me using thread to tie it and then it pops off in a couple of days. Feels wonderful to be skin tag free doesn't it?!
Family Nurse Practitioner, or Physicians Assistant, Certified. Mid-level providers, basically as good as doctors for most stuff, but they can't bill insurance as much for their time.
You should actually make 1/2 a recipe of the cheesecake to keep at home, because it's sooooo good and you just can't get enough of it when you have to share it! hahaha, at least that's my way of thinking!
No, but they don't know what a Wii is so we can talk about it in front of them. BTW, holiday Monk and Psych tonight - episodes should be on the web soon!
While looking for one thing (crayons), I found another (my wedding rings). I had just given up on my wedding rings, because the last time I remembered seeing them was in a hotel room on our way back from Ohio in April. I figured I'd left them by mistake, and rather than report it the maid had taken them for herself. (I had called to check if they'd found anything) But on a search for a box of crayons, I saw a bit of the ribbon they were hanging on around my neck. I picked it up, and lo and behold...
Anyway, so I'm happy. :)
Never did find the crayons.
Update:
I did find the crayons.
And I have been wearing my (deceased) grandfather's wedding band in the meantime, so it's not like I've been entirely ringless. It's a bit bigger than mine, but that's why I wasn't wearing mine on my finger at the time, it was too small.
This happened about 2 weeks ago now, but with lectures and the sick child, I forgot to write about it at all.
Wednesday night, it was fairly cold outside. As one of our members came in late, in with him popped this rather large orange and brown striped cat. He was in a hurry to get in out of the cold, and he went straight up the aisle, all the way to the front where my husband was leading singing. As a matter of fact, we had just finished singing "All Things Bright and Beautiful... creatures great and small" when he popped in. Matthew noted that, and then mentioned "preaching the gospel to every creature. As you can imagine, the appearance of the critter caused no small commotion, but before too long he was removed bodily from the building. But he had no intention of giving up that easily.
Apparently, someone came in really late, during class, and the cat came in with him. (I was in the safety of my cat-free classroom by this point. I am allergic to cats, the longer-haired the cat is the worse, and this one was really long-haired) He got removed again. Then, after we were dismissed, the first person who walked out the doors let him in yet again!
We haven't seen him since. I hope he found somewhere warm... but as big as he was (and it wasn't all fur), I'm pretty sure he has a home. He may even be like our friends' cat who for a while conned his way into meals from a compassionate neighbor, as well as those at his own home.
This reminded me of the time the giganto spider came to church at Antioch... and actually started crawling on the bottom of my sandal before Matthew pointed him out. But that's a story for another day. Do you remember that Holly?
We actually had a visitor bring her dog, dressed in a little pink dress, to services not too long ago. His aunt took pictures with her phone. She barked when the bell rang after class.
We had a lovely, if crazy, weekend. Friday night, they arrived, as well as her and her, with Anaja and Katie, to stay with us, shortly before our singing... I would have to count, but we probably had more people from away at the singing than locals. Which is fine. :) The singing was very nice.
Abigail actually arrived at the singing straight from an afternoon at Grandma's house. Grandma mentioned that her voice was raspy all afternoon, but I didn't think much of it. She didn't want to sing at the singing, but I figured that was part of her standard shy act. She was acting shy, but fast became friends with Anaja and Katie. She even requested for them to sleep in her room with her.
There's a much longer version of this, but basically, she awakens at 3 AM with a rather dramatic episode of difficulty breathing. I was on the point of taking her to the emergency room when Matthew suggests outside air would help. I should mention that with all the people and activity in the house that evening, the house was very warm, and the outside air was probably around 50... quite comfortable for this time of year. So she and I camped out in my sling-type chair in the garage (it was raining) for the rest of the night.
I understand the first 2 lectures were very good, but I missed them since I was taking Abigail to the Walk-in clinic, then to try to get the prescription filled. We made it for lunch and the last lecture, then got to enjoy the evening with some of the brethren, then went to sleep.
There's another dramatic 3 AM story for that night, but those of us upstairs got to sleep through that one, so John will have to tell it.
Sunday was filled with more good lessons, visiting, hot tea, fire in the pellet stove, and general merry-making.
By Monday morning, we'd lost all our company. (Abigail had had one more 3:30 AM incident, but not nearly so dramatic. She had also taken a liking to spending part of the night out in the chair in the garage) Monday I managed to be the only responsible adult around, and therefore blamed for the breaking of: the big computer, the laptop, the furnace/hot water, and the pellet stove. 3 out of 4 are back to almost normal now. The laptop was in poor shape anyway, or rather, its cord. Monday could make a rather lengthy entry in itself, but I won't write it.
Today, I came downstairs and as I headed to the computer I saw a lump on the couch. :) It seems Abigail had gotten up before Daddy started his shower (roughly 6:30.) She then sat down on the couch and went to sleep until I arrived... then went back to sleep. Sitting right up. Eventually she lay down/fell over. She didn't wake up until 1:30. I let her sleep, because I figured that would be the best thing to help her heal. But I'm just hoping she gets some sleep tonight. :)
We enjoyed ourselves so much ~ hope Abigal's rest today made her much better. I have downloaded my pictures so let the race begin as to who posts them first. :)
Hope the hot water and pellet stove are the 3 out of 4.
Wow, what a dramatic weekend! The good parts sound really good though. I can't believe you broke all that stuff... sounds like a day in the life of me :) I hope Abigail feels better soon.
I pray that Abigail is feeling better! I'm thinking that your sling chair would be fun at 3:00 am, maybe in August!!! haha Tell Abigail not to get used to it. haha
Hi Brooke! I was wondering if you could give me your mailing address, and maybe Daniel, Philip, and Seth's addresses too. I'd really appreciate it! My e-mail is supremebookworm at together dot net. Thanks so much. :)
