Last week we went camping for Thanksgiving, for our 14th year. It was fun – we camp with a big group …. there aren’t enough letters for everyone. It was pretty warm. The first night I found a snake skin (that had been shed) on my mattress. I just figured that Daniel put it there, I laughed and went to bed…. not giving it a second thought. I found out the next day that no one put it there. The next night I searched under the mattress and in my sheets but never found a snake. So I went on to bed. Looked in my sleeping bag and mattress the next night but never found it. I slept well every night, surprisingly! I’m not a camper but now I stay in a pop-up trailer. The rest of my family stays in tents with the group. I did the tents for many years, so I feel I’ve paid my dues.
Now we are on to the Christmas Holidays and wedding in January. Time is going by fast! We sent out invitations and people have already responded. We have lists. I’m not sure how Christmas is also going to happen while we’re planning a wedding. We’ll see! It will be exciting having family and friends here for the wedding. I hope I’m able to visit with them.
In other news, I need some advice. We are going to have to replace our refrigerator. There are so many choices – side by sides, French doors on top with the freezer on bottom, freezer on top, frig on bottom, regular frig on top, freezer on bottom. Water and ice on the outside? Any suggestions? Ours is 25 years old and has been making a loud high pitched noise for a while.

Daniel graduated from Fire Fighter Training this past Sunday afternoon. He is now a Volunteer at the Community Volunteer Fire Department in Houston. He spent ten weeks on some intense training. One night I was at the fire station and saw them climbing an 85 foot ladder, wearing their gear including the helmet and oxygen tank. I have put on the fireman’s gear myself. It is very heavy and thick. I can’t imagine wearing all of that and going into a burning building. This past Saturday they did go into a burning building for their last test. Over the weeks, they’ve gone into a building blind-folded, with gear on, and had to find their way back out. They’ve spent hours hosing down a field that was colored like flames. One night after services on Sunday night, Daniel was spending the night at the station. We were on our way home and heard the sirens. A truck passed us and I said to Melissa, “Daniel is probably on that truck.” He called a couple of minutes later and said they’d just passed us. (I was so glad I had pulled over for them). He had been honking the horn at us as they drove by. It choked me up seeing the truck go by. I was glad he had called and said it wasn’t anything big they were going to. It’s a hard job but Daniel has loved it so far. He's always enjoyed helping people in need -- especially those stopped on the side of the road! I pray for his safety and that it is something that will be good for him, and that he will honor God in this new work.
Congratulations, Daniel! I'm proud of you!
